War is going well for Russia that school children have to be trained.

American schools used to have gun clubs, and kids brought their rifles to school. You know where the mines are, your adversary does not. You don't mine your entire front, just certain areas (usually your flank). Using mines may limit the avenues you can push forward, but also limits the sectors you can be attacked from.

There were stories of Russian Mobliks attacking while regular army units mined their avenues of retreat due to fog of war/shit Russian comms.

As to the artillery delivered mines, others have mentioned the new ones, but the old ones were FASCAM. Family of Scatterable Mines. They came in Anti-Tank and APERS. One barrage from a field arty unit could layer them nice and thick.

First explosion looks like a shaped charge going off, shooting a liquid jet of molten metal through the whole thing, and the second explosion is ammo or something else going off after being hit by the shaped charge.

This isn't a shaped charge and is the work of photoshop. It's super obvious in slow mo, smoke completely freezes when the second explosion happens and even has a nice stock fade effect.
