Historically, the free speech absolutism concept didn't necessarily mean "allow literally all speech" the way nick seems to apply it.

He thinks he needs his community to be everything to everyone in order to be pro free speech. Having certain rules/standards that make sense for you as a business owner don't mean you're against free speech. Say some schizo walked into a grocery store and started screaming the lyrics to Ram Ranch in the middle of the produce section. The store would probably ask him to stop, then if he didn't, have him removed, right? That doesn't mean they are anti free speech assholes, it means they are trying to stop someone from disturbing their regular customers and causing a disruption to their normal course of business. They don't say, "wait, we should just let him do his thing, maybe there are some Ram Ranch enjoyers who shop here. Other customers who don't like it can just not listen to him, or shop somewhere else." From a purely common-sense business standpoint, it's a bad idea to let people disrupt your community in the name of free speech.

From a ideological standpoint, I understand where he wants to try offer his users as little restrictions as possible. I actually try to employ a lot of the same principles on chud buds. We have one woman on there who literally has some onlyfans knockoff profile she links to occasionally. I allow it, because she follows the rules of marking her stuff NSFW spoilered, we have a block feature for anyone who doesn't want to see it, and she doesn't use her account solely for self promo spam. People in Locals don't have any of those options. They can't block the people posting it, there's no spoiler/NSFW tagging, and anytime it's replied to it shows the photo again in the context, so it can really become disruptive or the main focus of the chat for extended periods.

This might have been true if he had the foresight to do it from the beginning. Whenever I wander in to see what insanity is going on in the chat I actually don't see pictures that often anymore but there is almost always weird flirting and nonstop sexual innuendo.
