I know Waid lawyered up with superlawyer Zaid and they were pulling out all the lawyer tricks to drag things out, which gets expensive (for both Zack and Waid). The official story was that it was going to be prohibitively expensive for both sides so they cut a deal where neither side could claim victory (although I see it as a victory for Waid).

The answers are probably somewhere in this thread, so I apologize if I missed it, but did Zack actually burn through his whole war chest? If so, I'm sure people would have contributed again. I'm guessing that Zack just wanted to move on with his life with his crowdfunding success, but many of the people who made him a success did it to support him against Waid. I know lawyers are expensive, but his case seemed like the culmination of CG and I think people were still prepared to stand with him on this. It just seemed like he backed out when most people were still prepared to fight.

But maybe his lawyers told him that Waid's lawfare would cost several of orders of magnitude more than the war chest could provide. Or maybe Zack's case was less of a slam dunk than we had been led to believe? It just sucks that we don't know (which, again, sure feels like a victory for Waid).

He probably did or used that money for himself, which ever came first. By he, I mean Richard. The specifics of what he did with that money never came out and he never offered an explanation.

I‘d say it was kind of a draw but Waide came out looking the better out of the two. Zack lost a lot of respect from CG fans but, at the same time he pissed off a lot of SJWs because he set a precedent that what Mark Waide did to block Zack from the industry will be met with consequence. Especially, since many of those sjw types don‘t have pockets as deep as Waide’s.

He quit the Waid lawsuit because he was tired and anxious all the time over it, and he came to believe that whatever he was awarded monetarily would be a fraction of what he spent to get there.

Of course, he forgot that he wasn't spending HIS money, it was OURS (I gave him $500 myself) and it was never about the monetary judgement, it was always about making a point and punishing Mark Waid.

But it was his time and energy and life.

Questions about what was left of the money: I recall he was down to about $9000, which he donated to some charity somewhere. Bleeding Cool did an article about it with Zack's cooperation.

Part of me felt then, and maybe I still suspect, that one of the reasons he quit was that the funds had dwindled and he couldn't bear asking for more. I wasn't exactly eager to go back to ComicsGate to fundraise for it, but I told him I definitely would do it if he needed the money. He never let me in on how low the funds had diminished, so I never pushed the issue.
