I guess it makes them feel suave and classy. These clowns think they are in the best tradition of Humphrey Bogart - and they think they are the personification of the modern gentlemen by tipping their grease-soaked hats at random women.
Where did they get the idea? 40s Noir films.
Now, the better question: With all the ridicule that Fedoras receive and how blatantly unflattering the stereotype of the "fedora-tipping euphoric atheist niceguy forever-friendzoned dweeb" has become, why did these clowns still insist on wearing that hat? The thing that always gets me is that none of them even try to get a decent one (e.g., wool/fur felt, unpatterned, a color other than black). I mean, I don't give a shit if someone wears a fedora, just that they should put some thought into it. /hat autism
