I believe the preferred nomenclature in the context of HOI4 is 'toozer mod'.

Had some more time to kill today, so I've collected the scant few BTWH teasers (this is all they had for the entirety of 2022) for convenience's sake. The first, added to this post as an attachment due to its size, is a collage of screenshots lifted from far-left hive Sufficient Velocity and drawn from their solitary dev diary, which is otherwise pretty much unchanged from the original that got posted almost 3 years ago - as you can see, even several of the revolutionary factions haven't been given party localization yet despite being thought fit for a public teaser & the overt favoritism demonstrated toward them by the devs (overall I count 3 right-wing tags shown in this collage, 2 liberal-democratic ones, and 7 revolutionary ones). Teaser image #1 is the first proper teaser for Nu-BTWH and was posted in July last year, a few weeks after the redux'd dev diary. Teaser image #2, in which one of Hubert Humphrey's friends can barely keep herself from sperging about why capitalism is evil and the US Army is fascist for daring to fight back against literal city-destroying riots & Communist insurrections as well as their Progressive enablers, was posted to their Discord around Thanksgiving.

Ironically, Minnesota appears to be the faction with the most work done on it so far despite being the most boring-sounding of the mains. As the teasers should make clear enough, they're set up to be the wholesome 100 socdems hoping to peacefully sap support from & unravel the military dictatorship in Denver with an eye on restoring democracy, while also opposing the various revolutionaries who want to destroy 'Amerikkka' altogether.
As far as I can tell, no work is being done to follow up on most of the old teasers from when Anarchomastia/Logan was running the show. For example, despite the last truly new dev diary being one on Maine from 2020 (immediately preceding the terrorist interview), development on the entirety of New England and Anarchomastia's idea of a New England demo has been shelved by the new management. And this map of a fragmented California that they had already taken the time to code?

Yeah none of these are intended to get content even in the hypothetical case of BTWH making it to an 0.1 release, either. Not even the 'Nationalist Government of California', which is supposed to be the main opposition faction to the California Federation (IIRC the 'Califed' losing to the Nationalists is supposed to be what triggers its collapse into the above factions, so the counterrevolutionaries won't even be allowed to get a clean win over the Black Panthers & friends). The development team seems more interested in constantly changing priorities, ditching old projects to start over on new tags, and still trying to make a worse take on Scooby-Doo than HBO's Velma happen.

Is Kalterkrieg dead too? I swear it seems that cold war mods for Kaiserreich are just cursed, I remember those mods being worked on way back in 2017.

I find it funny that they refused to make factions of the American Nazi Party or NSLF because they were too "irrelevant", when they got pressed as to how commies with an even smaller group got a faction they finally admitted they didn't want to give them a "platform" so now the only far right faction is muh KKK and a very stereotypical depiction of the US Military.

They are surprisingly very far in development. Their last livestream seems to indicate all they need to do is iron out some bug fixes and finish some placeholder events. They could be done by a couple of months.

There is this strange delusion among many HOI4 modders that they absolutely can't depict those they consider to be historical 'bad guys' in a positive light, or even at all in some cases, because to do so might actually convince impressionable players that maybe fascism or Nazism whatever is a good idea, nor can they stand the idea of letting the chuds derive any enjoyment (however unintentional) from playing 'their guys'. My understanding is that this was also the real reason as to why Kaiserreich's devs have cut the Africa expansion path for Integralist Brazil (literally axing longstanding, preexisting content just to deny the evil chuds fun) and why TNO had so many failstates/trap-paths & negative modifiers for the Nazis while making it possible for the commies to not only bounce back in Russia but potentially get elected in America, even though logically in a Nazi victory scenario Communism should've taken Fascism's place as the totalitarian ideology that was discredited and crippled by its WW2 defeat and the destruction of its primary harbinger.

In BTWH this seems to have manifested in making MacArthur and Goldwater failures as presidents (the mere fact that their lore makes MacArthur president from 1952 to '56 but unable to start WW3, much less win it as we know in hindsight he would have considering the disparity between the American & Soviet nuclear arsenals at the time, is mindboggling) and most of the hard-right paths into milquetoast military juntas or Klan puppets who will just be a sort of American Putin if they win. The actual furthest-right anyone can go IIRC is the CSAL, an obscure faction of Christian Identity-espousing wignat domestic terrorists, who are set up to be a failstate anyway per the attached screenshot.

There's this hilariously inflated sense of self-importance re: their mods, like some free-to-play mods they can't even profit off of for a game that Paradox is absolutely determined to profit from in the long term can have some epic real-life impact and wields the potential to inform real-life players' worldviews. Frankly, the kind of people whose socioeconomic & political views are so malleable and uninformed that they can be influenced by a video game have got way more problems to worry about than finding a fun Nazi path for HOI.

Why is CSAL even in the mod? The founder didn't get his wacko "fuck the jews" vision until 1978 and it wasn't until 1983 that they started to actually do shit.

Yes, the devs said that it was impossible for the internationale to collapse on it's own even though the devs planed for the Russian natpop faction to be able to collapse.
There would have been no totalists in the mod but India was supposed to be the token left wing authoritarian nation.
Krasnacht was an interesting premise ruined by it's devs not willing to let go of their political biases and your typical hoi4 modding stagnation. What was the other kaiserreich syndicalist cold war scenario?
 
They wanted a religion bad faction even if it doesn't makes sense within it's context.
When it comes to stuff like this I'm convinced that they only ever include it because either its something they're autistically interested in or they have some kind of relation to it, with just a cursory search on wikipedia you can find groups that make more sense like Aryan Nations. Maybe they want the le epic schizo route since the CLAS was a doomsday cult.
