It's also because MauLer is friends with Rags, and has been longer than any host; MauLer literally wouldn't correct Rags on air when he told audience members to actually go kill themselves over calling out his own stupid take on something. MauLer doesn't have standards for himself or his co-host, he only has justifications for why what he doesn't like is objectively bad.

Southpaw hasn't gotten attention in a while. Seriously this guy is such a looser - He used to get engagment in the thousands. Hundreds of likes and dozens of retweets. Now his engagment is a group of autistic orbiters that always respond to his shit and at best he gets like 20 people. He could've made it after Efap but similar to Mauler he's too lazy to actually produce scripted content, he could've just dropped the drama and go on with his life. Instead he's a Twitter sperg that always crawls back once couple months, shoot a couple shots and then whinges that "I just want it to be over".

Also all of these new tweets were followed by Rekieta. Is that a sign that he didn't enjoy his time on the show?

With all this talk about Mauler's style, I wanted to put in my 2c about why Synth is currently one of my must-watch youtubers. To restate TheAlmightyLoli's take more politely, he doesn't have a deep conceptual grasp of certain subjects, but his self-awareness and near-total lack of pretension make up for that. His strong point is a fairly large mental library of gaming tropes that allows him to make all his videos unscripted. The other big thing is that his objective is simply to find and promote good games. But wouldn't that describe most youtube reviewers? Absolutely not - their primary goal is to grow their audience, and at a certain level of fame, that often metamorphoses into ego trips. Sometimes 11 hours long.

There are gaming channels that are much better-produced and better-sourced, but in a typical 20-40 minute video a significant part of the runtime will be eaten up with unfunny jokes and trite positivity designed to appeal to bandwagoners and cultivate parasocial bonds with loser nerds, as well as boilerplate like "this is just my personal opinion guys I'm not saying this is a fact" in an attempt to prevent said bandwagoners and losers from tearing each other to shreds in the comments. The longer I watch youtube, the less I can stand this seemingly near-mandatory fakeness and sociopolitical cushioning.

So yeah, give me a dude that just blurts out what he does and doesn't enjoy with some level of fluency in the subject matter, no matter how many people don't like it or are tired of facing up the reality that most AAA games are mediocrities. I don't need him to affect intellectualism or agree with me 100% of the time (his Doom Eternal review is not great lol), I just want an honest, halfway reasonable opinion that digs into the details of the game.

I dunno i watch synth from time to time also watched his response with the GoWR thing and didn't like that he can't admit when he was wrong. Like the mandatory boss fight. That being said synth's argument about how Kratos is beating up gods 1 second and struggeling with the riff raff the next being met with uhhhhh otherwise it's not fun really fucking pissed me off.

His April Fools video on Episode 9 was clearly making fun of Just Write, and was based on his actual issues with him as a critic/writer. It is only funny because his audience doesn't like Just Write. I actually bet that, with the return of unbridled rages being even long than they used to be, and him more openly just criticizing/going after anyone again, there's simply no need to this video series that only existed to criticize people indirectly this year.

eh i found them more and funnier than that. tho i think i saw an earlier one. i liked that he made note of some of the dumbest things reviewers said and then put them in the video and made it seem very professional

I've said it before, Drinker is the most tolerable of all of these youtubers to listen to. Sure he's not exactly big brain listening, but he understands how to cut things down in understandable soundbytes. I'm also liking the fact that he's starting to have b-list actors on his show to talk about their experiences with movies/the industry. The Event Horizon one with Emily booth was legit interesting.

That said, I missed this one. What did they feel the need to defend him from?

EFAP spent an hour on the first 4 mins criticising Pillars before he even said his argument. Glass Onion is okay, maybe even good. I enjoyed watching it in NYE. Much more than last year's Netflix film Don't Look Up. Man that was fucking dour.

The thing with Rian, I think I've said it before, is that he is pretty similar to Zack Snyder. He has a lot of style, has a decent eye for visuals and overall his movies have a style that you can remember. Hell I watched Looper once and I still remember shit I liked from it. Like ZS tho, he is shit at storytelling and should be kept away from scripts. He believes he is much more clever than he really is. In fact, Shyamalan might be a better comparison. They have potential but are overly reliant on their twists and subversions so much that you know something is coming.

It doesn't help that he straight up lies in Glass Onion a couple of times, breaking what makes a whodunit interesting, the fact that everything was there but you couldn't see it. The movie looks pretty though.

As for TLOU, I think Mauler will say it is good. It is hard to fuck up TLOU because the game was essentially a pitch for a movie or show, so there is not a lot you can fuck up unless they wanna demonize Joel from the get go. Besides he has shown that he loves Soyny's moviegames.
