Speedrunning Thread (Take 2) - GOTTA GO FAST

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
This thread is getting more and more autistic a-log'ers by the minute. Yes, autists and trannies speedrun, no it doesn't mean that it is a "wrong" hobby. A hobby does not need to be useful nor prideful. People are free to enjoy what they enjoy and you are free to think it's useless garbage. The autistic point of "speedrunning isn't the same as X" is simply dumb to me. People watch TV for hours, multiple capeshitter movies per year, they go see standup comedians. I agree that some hobbies are probably more educative than others but I think a good balance of educative and non-educative hobbies are ideal. Stop shitting up the thread lol.

This year's GDQ was bad. And it's been in decline for a bit.

Just the fact that it wasn't in person means we lost the couch commentary hijinks and crowd cringe reactions.

Though with the troon colonisation, I'm not sure I'd want to look at a crowd of balding fat manchilds in anime clothes pretending to be womens.

Also, they pretty much ran out of interesting games to watch. And they lost their ability to make a good scheduling. Previously they would've ended with FF7, instead of having it lost in the week.
GDQs have been in decline for the better part of the last 8 years or so in my opinion. I've always found read donations to be annoying as fuck, especially since they were for the most part unfunny reddit memes à la "greeting from Germany" and "kick le cancer's butt". The vibe got more and more reddit-like as years went by and that's a damn shame. It's like seeing that small hometown fast food restaurant on the corner of the main street become a multinational corporative shithole. What about the fun?

Blueglass/Yellow Shirt Guy? I'm unaware of any updates since his ban for sharin' the doob.
That reminds me, the sheer amount of famous/skilled runners banned from the event is obscene. I remember a SpongeBob speedrunner called shift made it a big story for a while. It’s a real shame since it just further limits the options for the stream. if I remember right that SpongeBob game has a pretty fun route with a lot of variety in its techniques, I wonder how many other entertaining to watch games are basically blacklisted because they banned top runners.

Yeah Blueglass, that's the one. Although the guy in that link is someone else, says BubblesDelFuego.
Fuuuuck you're right, got the incidents mixed up. In any event, YSG hasn't been seen for years.

There was some thinking he'd been banned and he got treated kind of weird by the GDQ people at the last one he was at. But dude evaporated after.

as far as i can tell Bluegrass just stop showing up. I think he donated the first year he didn't show up saying he was working so. I'm assuming at this point he may have just lost interested in the hole speed running/GDQ scene, settled down or maybe a combo of both

Guess he dodged a bullet then by ducking out before all the tranny nonsense took over.

Which makes me wonder, what regulars from the <2016 era put the controller down and got on with life rather than taking the Cosmo path.
I didn't watch this year and barely the last couple. Most of the based runners got banned before they could think to quit.

As for Blueglass... Well, another factor is, was he ever going to get to run again? Autists love Ecco, but not as much as the broader-appealing Sonic, I can't imagine it's a big donations game so....

"Long time donator first time watcher" and "the left hip of the great aunt of my daughter's dog breeder died of cancer last month" are the two absolute worst kind of reddit meme donations they keep reading. It's so annoying.

And yeah, corporatism and high production values changed the feel of the event quickly.

Oh, and the prize lottery shows are also so cringe.

I had a skim through the vods/chapters on Twitch, the only runs that jumped out at me were the MGS3 race which was a good watch (as much for nostalgia than execution/commentary) and FF7 but I don't have 7:30 hours to spend watching that.

And point taken, along with what Kendrik said about the donation game/corporatism. It really took the fun out of GDQ.

I have no source on this, but I swear I saw somewhere that he was effectively banned because of how loud, hyperactive and shouty he was as an audience member right around the time gdq started treating themselves too professionally

So that was the rumor. Nobody's ever substantiated it. I believe it though. There was an incident where it looked like he was told to leave the room and GDQ denied it with a lame excuse.

Im just amazed GDQ is still around. Last I recall everyone was getting banned in GDQ's self inflicted suicide act by the corporate suits that just showed up one day. They had been on the level of nu-bungie's blatant tax writeoff ""charity"" grift for some time.

Come back years later and its all showoffs and troons. This must be what time travel feels like.

The "professionalism" bans actually galled me worse than the slow troon invasion - speedrunners tend to the tism so that was somewhat inevitable. The hush hush act of 'you need to be professional for the sake of the sponsors and the charaity at your nerd fun convention' really was the killer.

What WERE the end numbers? It seemed down to me. I never even watched.

They've been trying to keep it on life support since the good old times with shows for their real target audience with shits like femme fatales where the association to that group is more important than getting good times, and has more troons than womens.

Anecdotally; view numbers are decreasing slowly, while "donations" are going up.

That said, "donations" includes whatever the fuck big people send them, and I wouldn't be surprised if their parent charity sends them a large chunk so that they can double dip.

Also, what's the point of watching a livestream spedrun marathon if it doesn't include Werster called Golem a stupid nigger because it keeps loafing around or hitting itself in confusion and ruining the run?

Idk, only tuned in for parts of super mario 64. appeared to be just a few hundred chatbots. Yeah no one can put "speedrunning" on a resume so that "professional" bullshit holds no water. IIRC seldom few of the runners ever got paid anything for playing on stream outside the ones who already had large followings.

Yeah those cunts are the least fun personalities. All they care about is throwing about their personal army and powertripping. Not that most speedrunning tricks haven't been publicly documented for well over two decades now.

The point was that if people acted like speds or got a little too based, the corporate donors would get scared off. Not personal professionalism so much.
