XBOX filled the void that SEGA left behind after Sega left the console market in March 2001. In November 2001, Microsoft took a gamble and joined this very exclusive industry, competing with Sony and Nintendo.

The original XBOX was a giant heap of shit even if the games were okay. It proved that online gaming was the future.

The XBOX 360 in 2005 further expanded from the original, and it cemented the Xbox brand in the gaming industry. The 360 arguably was probably the best Xbox console of the lineup. The games were solid, the features of the console were commendable but many weak points like shit backwards compatibility and the Red Ring of Death were major weak points of the 360

Then in 2013, Xbox fucks up big time with the Xbox One. Forced DRM initially gave the Japanese brand Sony the edge over Microsoft. Not to mention the horrible lack of exclusives.

Now we’re in the fourth XBOX console - the Xbox Series X/S. Microsoft learned a lot from the Xbox One’s fuck ups and are now acquiring new studios and major gaming firms like Activision and Besthesda, who already have their own massive catalogues of franchises like Call of Duty, Fallout, DOOM, among others. Game Pass is cool, and the console has nice nifty features that is forcing Sony to respond accordingly. Also XBOX is backwards compatible with XBOX, XBOX 360 and One games. Nice.

I own a Series X. It’s my first XBOX console and so far. I like it. It does have its flaws. Lack of engaging exclusives, is one, the usage of AA batteries is another, and the controller whilst comfy isn’t as innovative as the PS5 admittedly.

360 was a bunch of missed opportunities.

Back when Netflix was worth the sub, it was kino as fuck to have the kinect set up and be able to talk to your xbox to play netflix like it was the proper future. Kinect was dumb, but it was dumb fun.

It was absolutely retarded how hard they missed common sense integrations. You could do Windows Media Center (sometimes), but no Zune.

I've thought about getting an X, but I there's nothing new worth watching on streams and there's not a lot of must-play games that I wouldn't rather just play on PC.

I would like to thank Microsoft for realizing consoles are a dead gay market and normalizing everything being Xbox/Microsoft Store inclusive, which both hilariously short-circuited Sony fanboy's brains and also increased the number of formerly console-exclusive franchises I could get on PC.

I used to be a big fan of Xbox, the original was cool, the 360 was cool for a while, but they jumped the shark with the Kinect bullshit and I've never looked back ever since, I think the most recent Xbox game I've played was Gears of War: Judgement.

Xbox used to be the gamers gaming machine, then they sold that out to chase a casual audience that never arrived, followed by TV, SPORTS.

They've just not put out anything interesting enough over the last decade for me, where's stuff like Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge?

Basically any chance of Xbox being interesting died with Scalebound, they keep teasing a comeback, but it's yet to arrive, they teased a comeback in 2014 with Crackdown 3 and the Phantom Dust reboot and we all know how that turned out.

They have at least made the smart decision to bring everything to PC as well as emphasis on backwards compatibility, also I forgot until now they published Psychonauts 2, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

I don't play on consoles that much these days, so it's funny to me to see complaints about poor exclusives on Xbox, alongside people dunking on Sony for the PS5 having poor exclusives in its thread, too. Is Nintendo the only one with exclusives worth getting these days, or is this generation just overall devoid of worthwhile console exclusives, now that porting is easier than ever before?

Xbox Series has some lame exclusives (if you even count them), but the systems themselves are great for emulation and backwards compatibility which puts it above a PS5 for me.

I still haven't bought one though cause I have a PC and the only games I really can't play with it (at least stable) are Saints Row 1 and Mercenaries 1, but if I was to buy a console it'd probably be a Series S because I don't give a fuck about 4k and I don't own any of my old Xbox games on disk anymore anyways (and I already got Mercenaries for free digitally back when I had a Xbox One).

Is Nintendo the only one with exclusives worth getting these days, or is this generation just overall devoid of worthwhile console exclusives, now that porting is easier than ever before?
Nintendo is pretty much the only one because they actually keep shit exclusive, and seem to focus on fun first and foremost.

Anything on Xbox and a lot of stuff on Playstation is on PC now. I think bang for your buck, Series S is the way to go if you don't have *anything*, but how many people don't have a Xbox One or Playstation 4 at this point?

Maybe if Starfield, Forza and Redfall end up being decent there would be a reason to upgrade from an Xbox One, I guess. They also announced new Fable and Perfect Dark but I haven't seen shit about them for what feels like forever.

As far as Playstation goes what do they have that is even announced at this point? Spider-Man sequel? Some shitty Horizon VR game? Like is Playstation 5 even going to have anything worthwhile before Playstation 6 comes out with their ridiculous 5 year development cycles?

Honestly I like console gaming sometimes. It’s nice to kick back and relax without worrying about the Technical aspects. Obviously PC is the best way to game in terms of gameplay quality but there’s also something nice about a gaming machine to game with.

I would argue Nintendo still keeps the spirit of gaming alive. Sadly no other game focused company really exists anymore in the console space. SEGA left in 2001 and they’re the most recent example

When I opened the thread I checked out some Skyrim on Xbox 360 footage. Also, this:

Xbox Series S is the poor folx console and devs have complained about it, but if it can almost play games in almost-1080p without the lower RAM being a huge problem, it's ok.

Consoles used to be the showcase for new optical disc drives, but they will likely go away by the next generation. Sad.

The console generation might be getting 1-2 years longer, not shorter. Which makes sense because the XSX and PS5 have powerful CPUs, SSDs, and more memory. Getting fast SSDs was the big deal for developers, the extra memory helps, and the 8-core Zen 2 CPUs are probably underutilized even now. They can do a Pro refresh in the middle to improve 4K performance, raytracing, and add a larger SSD.

The Xbox series S is closer to a PS4 pro than a next generation console. I could definitely tell that after getting my PS5. Sadly, Xbox has better online services.

Here are some of my issues with Xbox

1. There first party line up is objectively not good if you remove the Bethesda titles. I have no issues with them buying 3rd party publisher, but they fact they had to do that in order to have any type of line up is crazy.

2.No native Steam Deck support for gamepass, just streaming

3. Not porting classic games to pc. It's very odd you have Gears 1,4 and 5 on pc but not 2,3 and judgement.

4. They stopped adding titles to BC. Many games that they could have added, even some MS owned games which wouldn't have any rights issues stopping them.

5. Xbone had issues with crushed blacks and from what I heard the new consoles have the same issue.

6. Their new consoles have issues playing movies with the 23.976 frame rate which is most movies.

7. Not much variety in first party games mostly shooters of some type or racing games. I get that is what appeals to their core audience but more variety would help. However they have been improving in this area.

8. Mishandling of old ips. Gears games which are amazing on a tec level are clearly made by devs that would rather make something else and they no longer excite fans. Halo is a right mess, with master chief collection having more players than Infinite which has a free to play MP. They finally bring back Battletoads something people wanted for years and give them a version no one wanted. Crackdown 3's dev hell and on that note the shit of the Phantom Dust reboot.

9. Sea of Thieves is the only new ip of note they have made since the start of the Xbone era. Looking at their upcoming line up, I'm sure this will change, but only 1 new ip of note in 10 years, is really bad.

10. Windows store is still shit

GPU wise it is, however CPU wise it is far above PS4 Pro, (Xbone X GPU is much more powerful than it, however CPU again is much weaker).

Is XBox's online services still that much better? thought they became pretty close during the ps4 era but don't play online games so I could be wrong.

So with Starfield potentially delayed, is there anything else of note coming out? Microsoft owns half the fucking market but they can't push out any actual games. Fable has been in development forever, Halo Infinite took like two years to give the community a fraction of the content every other game has had at launch, and there's virtually nothing else on the horizon for them that I can see.

Xbox? IT'S THE GAY-BOX. IT SUXXXS BROS WHY WE DISCUSSIN THIS!?!?!?!??

The ASS-BOXXX is worse than our PC's we use and even worse than the sony shit-station.

Recently they released a FUCKING FRIDGE. WHO THE FUCK WANTS TO GAME ON A KFC GAMING FRIDGE? NO ONE WANTS TO DO THAT!

Redfall looks cool. Forza remake might be nice.

I guess the event on the 25th will be what paints the picture for Xbox in regards to exclusives.

Having the first 3 generations, with the last one being the One X, you can really see the evolution, and some of the failures along the way. The OG is fun as shit, picked it up for 20 bucks, and classics like Dead or Alive 3 and Mechassault are absolute must haves, not to mention Halo 1 and 2, especially playing with Friends.

Xbox 360 streamlined shit, and even today, most of the games I put on my One X were 360 titles. The controller dramatically improved, not to mention the console itself got lighter and smaller, perfect for taking over to the bros for Boys night.

Xbox One. A bit of a cluster fuck of hardware, of which I dealt with both. The OG brick was not really transportable, missing out on the improvements of the 360, not to mention internally it was underpowered and complex to code for, which didn't help in the lack of exclusives, not to mention the Kinect shit.

Now the One X/S refresh. I got the X. A vast improvement, fully capable of 4k, albeit thru brute force. Games like Bayonetta that got the Xbox One X enhanced treatment look simply stellar, and even now, with ports like Persona 5 Royal that I recently got, it's smooth as silk. Download speed also improved in this era, and it got a few extra exclusives, not to mention the console got way smaller and lighter.

I hate how MS mishandled Kinect on the Xbox One. So much potential with the increased hardware, which just turned into a forced gimmick for DRM and surveillance.

Kinect for Xbox 360 was a fun time, better than the Wii. But, you could tell it was a prototype for something bigger. Many games on it were inaccurate or cheap party games.

So basically we are going to probably be seeing a lot of cross generational shit again in 5 years?
