What amuses me most about this is how the dynamics have stayed exactly the same over the past 20 years but the targets have changed. Harry Potter was the pinnacle work of postmodern narcissism in which the protagonist is intrinsically distinguished from the collective. Back in the day, Harry Potter was the cheap, easy to consume material to slake the thirst to be unique, to believe yourself a "wizard" while leaving behind those pesky "muggles." To be in with the wizard in group of other so-very-specials was the way to escape being part of the out-group and mundane. JK Rowling directly stoked and profited off of this, and as such it is amusing that she finds herself confused when presented with this same dynamic, except under the aegis of "gender identity." The wackoes fleeing responsibility have a new umbrella now and they are not very happy she pointed out how loony it was. Giving her credit, the Potterheads were not as sexually hazardous as troons, but it's very strange that she does not seem to appreciate or acknowledge the undercurrent of desire that drives the phenomena to derangement.

I was kicked out of my uni's sci-fi and fantasy club for "defending" her. Well, I was not even really defending her, only asked a question. One of the members said that "Rowling should learn to respect trans women" and "Rowling is a terf" (not even "transphobe") after a discussion on Harry Potter books (not even the author herself was mentioned wow). I said "what did she do and what is your proof" in the group. The admins kicked me out of the group and announced that I was "banned" from club meetings.

I am one of those peeps who grew up with Harry Potter; the characters aged with me. I still listen to the audiobooks narrated by Stephen Fry because that’s when I can turn my brain off and just be comfy. It is like when the tv is on for background noise but for me it is HP audiobooks. When I learned what kind of a person Rowling is, I listened to the books with a new gusto and enjoyed them even more. It makes me glad to know the amount of seething it creates - lately I have been posting some updates about Hogwarts Legacy just to see how many brainwashed people are in my circle, two of them have left. They blew that book way out of context because they already considered her an evil terf. She had started posting terf shit before 'Troubled Blood' came out (and remember she was following Magdalen Berns on Twitter even earlier, around 2019, so the wokes were already suspicious) . They just used the cross-dresser killer (which was merely a plot point in the book) as an excuse to hound her further. He was however not a "trans" character. The one deliberate trans-identified character from the series is a good person and treated very kindly.

Her last book from the detective series, however, is indeed very heavily influenced by what she's gone through with the mob going after her. Except in the story I believe the media creator that gets crucified is mostly accused of ableism (if I recall correctly).

She used a very common type of fantasy monster in her book, and because they were described as conniving, hook-nosed and loving treasure (as they are in lots of fairy tales), people who are definitely NOT racists assumed they were meant to be Jewish.

I calmly stated again I saw no evidence of her actually calling for violence and being able to stand up for womens' sex and body-based rights should be an unambigious positive considering what they've gone through in history, and he mumbled how women of course deserve to be safe and all that and wisely the conversation tapered off so an more hostile argument wouldn't erupt.

I know TIMs have a special hatred of women but it hit me how bad it was all over again, to remember Rowling, like or lump her, was one a nigh-penniless single mother who successfully raised herself out of the abyss and now the power and wealth to NOT be shouted down or threatened by biological males.
