Just curious what people in the thread think is going to happen with the death of Tyre Nichols. The news is reporting he died in a “George Floyd” matter of death while in police custody while he was pulled over for allegedly reckless driving. 5 officers have been *Fired* and the Mayor has said this was a preventable death and the actions of these officers has broken trust in the community, his words. The body cam footage is suppose to drop in a few days. There is already a very large outcry in the Memphis area with large crowds daily and (on twitter so take with a grain of salt) Autonomous Zones going up. Can we expect country wide riots again? And how is the US going to afford riots with the debt ceiling being reached and Ukraine pleading for tanks while we are absolutely broke. Will the Biden Administration watch the country burn again in a Nero Like manner or will he actually deploy the National Guard to Quell riots? It’s going to get wild this next week if the news decides to handle this story like they did with George Floyd. Time will tell and I pray for a nothing burger. God bless this country we need it.

It's late January and there's a democrat in the white house. There won't be national riots. If there are, they will be shut down and national media won't cover it.

I am gonna predict that the trans movement is never fully accepted and is never banned or silenced. It will just become another permanent aspect of the ongoing culture wars. Similar to how for decades abortion has been a very divisive issue that people still hold strong opposing opinions on with no real end in sight.

The Bush years were pretty comfy for me in comparison to current year. I admit maybe that is just because rather than constantly stressing on politics and cultural BS, I spent most of my time enjoying my own life while ignoring all the crap around me. Biden's tweet about his optimism for America prompts immediate backlash: 'Jesus take the wheel'

Several people took to Twitter Friday evening to criticize President Biden after he tweeted that he had "never been more optimistic" about serving another two years in the White House.

"Two years in, and I've never been more optimistic about America's future," Biden said on the two-year anniversary of his inauguration, which was on Jan. 20, 2021.

But, people who responded to the post did not share the president's enthusiasm.

"Well, that makes one of us," one user replied.

Comedian Tim Young chided: "Gas is up 40 cents from last month and eggs are $9."

"You’re not even awake. Put the phone down, intern," another Tweet said.

Another user commented: "Two years in, I’d say the only direction you have to go at this point, is up."

Despite the president’s optimism, he remains widely unpopular in most opinion polls.

Biden's public approval rating remains near the lowest level of his presidency, with only 40% approved of his performance, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.


The president fairs somewhat better in other polls, though unable to get beyond the low-40s.

FiveThirtyEight’s presidential approval tracker has the president receiving 43.4 percent of Americans' approval.

The president’s handling of the economy, continued spending in Ukraine, failure to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, continued assault on gun rights, and the discovery of classified documents at his Delaware home have all drawn ire from his critics in recent months.


The president and the White House have said Biden will run for re-election in 2024, though he has not officially declared his candidacy for re-election. Such an announcement is expected and could come as early as next month.

At 80, Biden is the oldest person in U.S. history to serve as president.

According to Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, he is not likely to face a primary opponent should he choose to run.


"I'm all-in for President Biden," Clyburn told CBS' Robert Costa in an interview. "I think he's demonstrated, in these two years … that he is deserving of re-election. And I do believe he will be re-elected irrespective of who the Republicans, they put up."


When asked if Biden will have an opponent in the primary, Clyburn said: "I don't think he will, and I don't think he should."

On the other side of the proverbial aisle, former President Donald Trump has officially announced he is seeking the Republican nomination in 2024. He is the only candidate currently in the running.

Other potential candidates include former Vice President Mike Pence, Gov. Ron DeSantis, Gov. Nikki Haley, Gov. Larry Hogan, Mike Pompeo, Sen. Ted Cruz, and Gov. Glen Youngkin.
