Those awful rainbow paintings are decorating Sander’s new apartment bedroom. He moved out of Casa Bloshinsky sometime last fall. My speculation is that dad gently suggested he needed to move out and start being self-sufficient.

There are plenty of legit circumstances that sees adults continue to live with or move back in with their parents: job loss, illness, child/elder care, completing an advanced degree, etc. Sander meets none of those, he’s just a mammone.

But on top of that, Ari is a woman (genetics that can look good on a girl can look bad on a man) and she also seems to take care of herself.

Ari is butter cop while Sander's attempt at improving his nutrition was "eat an entire plate of plain arugula with every meal for a month" (which he failed after a week and a half).

Ari is seemingly the only one who cleans the house so probably is hygienic and therefore has a skincare routine, while Sander clearly doesn't wear sunblock.

Ari is studying a serious degree so is probably fairly temperate, while Sander dicks around all day on TikTok and appears to drink a lot.

Most importantly, Ari is the least involved in the show and is pretty removed from much of the family dynamic most of the time, while Sander is right in the centre with all the Jeanette Narc stress and Jazz cognitive dissonance that involves.

Taking care of herself is why Ari looks fine. Not taking care of himself is why Sander has aged like this since 2018 (L-R 2018, 2019, 2020 then 2021, 2022 and a few days ago).

I think it is just what my Grandmother used to call "the American Smile", where you think you have to show all your teeth at once. It seems to be a peculiarly American habit, as I have never seen people from other countries do it on a regular basis.

I'm American, I have a big toothy smile, and I couldn't even make my mouth work into that open-mouthed smile with the tongue just hovering in air when I just tried it. As I said earlier in the thread, I think the Pained Eyebrow Raise is an attempt to seem earnest. This would make sense if you were someone who, deep down, didn't actually believe the things you were outwardly saying, and you were therefore unable to express a genuine emotional state. Basically, his own psyche won't let him fully commit to the lie.

Sander is a tragic case of what happens when you haul in a teenager who isn’t too bright and put him in a TV show.
