It's fun to see how much rent-free space isekai takes up in Caitlin's head. On a recommendation for a completely unrelated show on AniFem, she closes it out by shitting on isekai for no reason. Note it has zero relevance to the show being talked about or the rest of her writing.
Didn’t watch The Little Lies We All Tell? Don’t worry; almost nobody did. Fall 2022 was a wild season full of ambitious series with complex stories and attention-grabbing animation. It’s no surprise that a late-entry gag series with a simple premise and middling visuals failed to garner an audience. As unsurprising as it is, it’s also a bit of a shame, because Little Lies was one of the most consistent delights each week for me.

In fairness, this was entirely unexpected for me as well. I saw Rikka, with her extremely youthful design, and assumed she was there to be sexualized. I heard that one of the girls was actually a boy in disguise, and assumed there would be transphobic and/or gender essentialist humor at his expense, or that he’d engage in predatory behavior that would be dismissed as “boys will be boys.” But then, none of that came to pass. Oh, there are acknowledgments of it—sometimes Rikka attracts unsavory attention from men and Tsuyoshi had a passing thought about “sexy surprises.” If anything, Little Lies is aware of sexist tropes and interested in actively subverting them. It’s hard to describe exactly how, since there’s no better way to ruin a joke than to describe it, and the punchlines thrive on doing what’s unexpected, so you’re going to just have to trust me on this.

One of the things that makes the comedy work so well is how balanced it is, all while rarely punching down. Comedy these days often either end up mean-spirited, whether intentionally like Asobi Asobase or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia or unintentionally like… the majority of American sitcoms from the ‘90’s; or sugary-sweet and laser-focused on a comforting vibe. Both can be nice, but they tend to leave me craving more. Little Lies walks this line perfectly, featuring an ensemble that truly cares for one another but keeps just enough acidic observational comedy that it doesn’t turn into empty-headed fluff. It rarely punches down, even when it has the opportunity to.

The Little Lies We All Tell was the perfect anime to come home to after work. I could sit down, kick off my shoes, and enjoy it without having to think too hard, but I didn’t need to turn off my brain, either. If you missed it—and I don’t blame you if you did—how about you try watching it instead of picking up one of Winter 2023‘s many carbon-copy isekai?

Oh the fujoshits are REALLY mad James ragged on the boy idol show whose name I forget in the preview guide;

As long as it is ANN eating their own through deriding their fanbase, then there’s no real winner here. Except for us, of course, since we don’t choose to willingly live on the Internet for validation as to why we can watch better isekai anime without their approval.

This is actually an improvement over how this things used to go back in the day before Twatter was the center of everything. Back then, you'd have some retarded review from space on ANN about how this fan favorite show was actually trash, someone would rightfully complain about it on their forum, and one of the cunts with power there, usually Zac, MacDonald or Toole would come in and call the person complaining about the ridiculous bias an awful person and then subtly threaten to ban them for getting uppity to one of their betters.

The same thing happens to this day apparently, but its' playing out on Twitter, where these assholes can't threaten to ban anyone and now their retarded bullshit and cunty superiority complexes are exposed to a wider audience outside of their sandbox. And of course then Sevakis hilariously comes in at the end to bitch about it because the fact that ANN's rep is in this trash can personally grinds his gears due to his egomania. "Irrelevant" indeed.

I would not advocate anyone here to*** the poo-poo*, but ANN is past it's expiration date, as well as all the cunty personalities attached to it. It's a fucking dinosaur. I would suggest to autists on Twatter, and perhaps elsewhere, to take advantage of the opening Elon Musk has given you in the near future and engineer taking your fandom back from these scumbags. It can be done, I'm sure.

*edit, apparently this term is in the swear filter now, my bad

Mou Ippon. Some shounen about girls doing judo, and yuribait.
That last thing is gonna make it a nasty one to discuss. 'Member G-Witch and all the yuri schizos?
Is it CGDCT? They usually only give a snippy line or two about those sorts of yuribait. I've noticed the real yurifag loons only come out of the woodwork when the show is ostensibly serious and action oriented. Think G-Witch or Lycoris Recoil, etc. None of them care a single bit or even know much about something related like the other Gundam shows or Gunslinger Girl, but add some yuribait and these people end up absolutely obsessed.

Remember that the yurifags and ANN are diametrically opposed to each other: most notably there was the cross-autism back in August when Vrai shitting on LycoReco with a bunch of head-ass takes in one of AniFem's podcasts led to AniFem getting ratio'd by fellow anitwitter queers. In terms of currently airing anime, more of them also like Onimai. Nick will be giving Ippon positive reviews, but likely won't be focusing on yuribait as part of it.

I mentioned Onimai? Here's Froggy's first episode review for that. It's f**king hilarious to see how she's calling it the best anime of the season when the rest of ANN (and AniFem) was trashing on the first episode because muh loli/fanservice bad.

So far it has been CGDCT. I really don't get the forced yuri angle people are pushing on this show. There's an isekai anime that actually has yuri content but I guess they want high school girls doing it instead of princesses. Same thing with Buddy Daddies and the incessant shipping of the main characters.

Lynzee retweeted the same old "Dylan is a predator" warning post that seems to make the rounds every year:
1674483247290.png
"Dylan may be a sex pest, but we have to respect pronouns!"
Also, the guy who snitched on Dylan goes on to justify his actions:

Also, Lynzee and Justin attack anime fans since someone dared to complain about James Beckett trashing a idol boy anime based on a gacha game. They then go on to exhume the corpse of Zac to remind you that they are your moral superiors, anime fans are evil and that their neglect had nothing to do with his death:

I feel sorry for my /m/bros who have to rely on Discotek (and by proxy this faggot's company) to get subs for their robot cartoons.

Apparently people read Sanae (the glasses girl) as crushing on Michi.

Again, who the hell is Dylan and what exactly was his relation to ANN? From what very little I can gather, he was some con personality who was also semi-popular on Anitwitter and part of ANN's social circle to the point of appearing on ANNCast.
The second question, why hasn't he been booted from every con already?

I already posted about that here, but not the latter tweet. Imagine comparing fujos calling out a shit review on Twitter to a dude literally getting a pic of his house mailed to him.

Dylan is his powerword. He's Hazukari online and he had been grooming underaged boys. ANN (eventually) pretended they weren't associated with him.

Actually is kinda funny how Anime Outsiders was closely involved in the investigation at the beginning, but he dropped off after a while.

These aren't recent and are from AniFem, but it's hilarious to see commenters point out the exact reason first episode reviews shouldn't be a thing just for the reviewer to respond with a dismissive, slightly condescending reply.

Random factoid I'm not sure anyone knew: when the Preview Guide took its current format in Spring 2008, for years it was organized by the individual authors; Zac, Theron, Bamboo, etc. would each have their own pages with all their reviews of the shows. They changed it to being organized by shows in Winter 2014. Coincidentally, that was also the first season Hope started writing the Preview Guide for after Zac slithered her over to ANN from TGWTG. Maybe they changed it because they knew no one would click on Hope's section. If only they kept that old sorted-by-author style, you can just focus on Eisenbeis and Silverman since they're the ones at least somewhat tolerable and ignore everyone else's, especially Caitlin.

Goodness, it's sad to remember that even Zac and Hope at least sometimes knew how to simply admit a show wasn't for them but has an audience and move on. Compare that to the current Preview Guide team: Caitlin, Nick, and James are all sad little boys (Caitlin especially) and Rebecca and Eisenbeis while not being as negative still sort of suck. This was also why I liked Mercedez so much until she stopped being as positive as she was once known for.

Does anyone even take anime reviews seriously? I just look through the /a/ catalog to see what might interest me.
I'd argue nobody but the over socialized takes them seriously
Most of my favorite shows are negatively reviewed by these kinds of weebs. So yeah, they're all trash. This was one of the dumbest ideas to come out of ANN, that we needed anime "critics" to tell fans what to like.

People pay attention to reviews?

I watch what I want and arrive at my own conclusions.
