If you want a free media, you can't frame this as something that will shape the format of free media, because in a truly free system you will have independent players as well as corpos, because different people want different structures. Edit 2: The views versus comments/likes isn't exactly right. The reason they get inflated isn't just botting but Youtube has a lot of embedding capabilities on websites, including major ones, that Rumble doesn't. So when something is embedded in a Discord or whatever, it gets viewed but not liked and commented unless the person clicks through to Youtube itself.

The whole thing is just retarded. Sure, the DW has a shitty contract and you can shine a light on that, but to make it out as something that can't be allowed to exist is stupid. It's like screaming about Coke, we all know it's sugar water that will kill you and is probably made by slaves, but people will never stop drinking it, so we all just acknowledge it's shitty but live with it. No one is also making it out to be that if you want to make drinks and sell them that you're forced to working for Coke.

But really, all of these people are missing the bigger problem, it's not just the hosting Youtube, but the money it offers. Google and big tech as a whole did a great job of conquering ad sales, and if you want to beat them at it, you shouldn't be building out a website that hosts videos, you should be making contracts with people buying ads so that you can monetize others as that's the easiest way to attract creators and viewers. That's also not as hard to do as building a social media platform, as you can show actual metrics to the people selling ads if you have a better conversion rate, and you can promise creators less scam products on who the promote. I think GamerFromMars actually does that behind the scenes where he vets smaller product ad buyers before selling them onto small creators.

What they're talking about is a browser plugin that overlays and lets you sign up to different content creators and websites. I remember there was one for leaving comments that was an overlay to videos but it got nuked as it allowed too much free speech even though the only people who saw it were the people using the plugin. The problem is no matter how you cut it, if you centralize something, it will end up being fucked and the only real solution is for people to not be lazy.

The other problem is payment processors can still fuck you at any time.

I watched this while doing other work and while I like Shad, he does become overly emotional far too often and he jumps the gun on multiple things that he rants about and are instantly answered after he calms down and unpauses the video.

He does make some great points about why the contract is shit, but also a lot of weird errors like saying losing more than 50% of sponsors 4 times in even spans of 90 days is a 25% cut on the full fee, when it would only be on the fee for the year. It's a shitty contract, but like with all things, you can't expect anyone to give you a fair contract, even if they are, if you don't know what you're worth and what you're willing to accept. Always assume you have to fight for what you want, because the other person doesn't know who you are or what you're worth, and trying to make businesses make offers you don't have to review and negotiate is stupid, even in a world with no malicious intent.

This is a really bad sign as people will always say they'll sign up to something, but you're only get a fraction of them when it comes time to actually sign up. It's actually a very common mistake entrepreneurs, is they ask if people will buy something and take it as sold instead of doing actual pre-orders, fundraising, or something that commits money. Then they launch the product after paying to produce it, and none of those people buy it.
