Soviet Union = Russia? In which case all previous agreements and treaties still stand and should be enforced.

Russia was historical threat to all the nearby countries and eventually a new conflict would arise. No "end of history", the threat remains so it has to be neutralized, just as we tried during the Cold War.

Russia hasn't violated any treaties it's has signed, unlike the US. The fact that the US does and everyone supporting the UKR is willing to just accept it is why the rest of the world is turning against the west.
