Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

"DND-Inspired story-driven roleplaying game" is almost as much of a joke as "quirky earthbound-inspired jrpg". Idk about you, but Baldur's gate 1 is hell of a chore to play. Plotline's kinda unremarkable, characters have that "fantasy-inspired cardboard cutout" feel, completely devoid of human qualities. Gameplay's just not the right stuff for single-player game. Clearly shows that the whole DND fad unfit for vidya. And besides, it spawned similar kind of "legacy".

I dont care how good your game is. If you insist on repeatedly forcefeeding players basic concepts like "weapons hurt enemies" for more than 30 seconds, you deserved to be shitcanned as a studio. Basically all Japanese games. Its like they get off on intentionally playing like a DSP stream where they stop to beg and do QNA for 20 minutes every other step. "*force pauses game* So uhm, like weapons do damage to enemies right?" "auhh whOA! Look D00D A COMbO! *force pauses the game after somehow being allowed to attack an enemy*"

On the other hand, Any game that removes the tutorial completely when selecting the hardest difficulty is worth a try.

Tried Scarlet nexus since it was free for this weekend as it looked interesting. Was immediately reminded of why anime games are generally regarded as being waifubait trash when it was stopping me after every step to where the game was unplayable. 0/10 not even worth it when its free.

That's why the patrician choice is Icewind Dale. There is no story to speak of, its like a 30 second set up of "there's some big bad, I don't know, go get em champ" and the rest is 40 or so hours of stabbing and firebombing snake people.

10/10, would recommend, better than BG1.

The best way to play those classic games is as a single character.
except for icewind dale because icewind dale's a whole heap of nothing

The uncharted series has always been shit
I always liked it.
The PS3 versions of the first three was much better than the PS4 version of the fourth game. If anything, the first two had a lot more fun elements, whereas the third one was slightly serious moments but had some good gameplay mechanics. It really improved from the second game, in my opinion.

I've been perusing the most popular user-made scenarios for Neverwinter Nights and I've realized there was a ton of potential in that custom campaign system, but it's all ruined by the fact that you play as a single character with a hireling. Fans will defend it and say "REEEEEEE it was meant to be played multiplayer!", but the Infinity Engine games already had that option years earlier and still allowed you to play single-player with a full party.

The interplay of party members with different combat roles is so vital to the whole D&D thing and not having it fatally compromises the experience. The whole game ends up feeling like really slow Diablo. It's depressing to imagine what could've been.
I have always hated NWN. The original campaign devolving into one of the stupidest stories Bioware had ever done. When I played it I felt railroaded into having to play as either a fighter, rogue or cleric, and take one of those three classes along with me. I never understood the dick sucking that game got on release.

I played the first three when they were remastered for the PS4, and I thought they were awful. The controls were really wonky, especially the aiming for what was a shooter game.

I remember I'd tell fanboys this and they'd tell me to play the PS4 version cause they fixed it, and I was like "I did." so I can only imagine how awful they were on PS3.

Thank God PS3 had absolutely nothing as far as games went for 5 years otherwise Naughty Dog would probably be fucked.

Is that unpopular? Everyone hated the original campaign.

He was responding to my post about Neverwinter Nights, which I believe IS an unpopular opinion, at least among the game's fans.

Not every single statement in this thread is going to be unpopular; we couldn't have any meaningful discussion that way.

Unironically though I did think those scenes in Heavy Rain where you were trying to... uh, escape something? Or climb through something? I can't remember, but the character had to contort in uncomfortable ways, and the buttons they had you hold on the controller were uncomfortable considering the order you had to hold them in, and I thought that was clever.

I think quick time events are fun.
i don't find it that wild to feel this way. lately i've been playing Legend of Dragoon for PS1 and as frustrating as those quick time- 'addition' attacks are to perfect (due to their very small window to hit the button) they're simultaneously so satisfying when you eventually do get the feel for them for each character

DMC2 isn't as bad as people make it out to be. So many of the little gameplay nuances became mainstay additions that would be repeated in every subsequent game.
I'll go as far as to say it shits on DMC3 and accept my trashcans.
