What is that exactly?
GTA SA might have had countryside. But it was all just empty unused space. It never got used for anything just some side stuff. As far as SA being multiple cities it was more like one big city cut into 3 different sections of a map. They just made each section look different. Other than the stupid nigger shit that I had a higher tolerance for back then it was a fun game. But it wasn't that mind blowing. Those old GTA games could pull off stuff that the newer ones didn't or couldn't because they weren't that graphically impressive. Just look at the physics engine in GTA IV. GTA 3-SA never had that level of physics. They certainly didn't have the details either. SA made a big deal out players being able to shoot gas tanks and blow up the cars and I think it was used in one mission. In GTA 5 you could shoot certain parts of the cars and gas would run out of them and you could shoot the gas to ignite it. You could shoot the guns out of people's hands in GTA IV. The newer games looked better and had details the older games didn't. Though the details were minor. But a lot of people don't talk about them. There are even more small details like this in RDR2. That game is nothing but countryside but it's not all completely empty. There is usually something you can do all over the map. But in SA you could go stand out in the countryside and there isn't anything to do. The countryside in GTA V was pretty much the same way. You could go out there but there wasn't much to do.There was a window of time there around 2005-2007 where the confluence of gaming, internet and computers really made it seem like the sky was the limit.
Grand Theft Auto III to GTA San Andreas blew everyone's minds, everyone expected the next generation to deliver an experience that was just as much of a quantum leap and it never really arrived, GTAIV looked better but was back to one city and no countryside, so it couldn't help but feel like a bit of a downgrade, GTAV brought back the countryside but was still one city, never again did the series make your jaw drop as much as SA's seemingly impossible sense of scale did.
Meanwhile the potential of the internet seemed insane, YouTube was insane, all of a sudden information could be thrillingly free and seemed destined to steer humanity into a better direction.
The cracks started to show with the Great Recession but hey look, we just elected the first black President! Obama seemed at the very least a step in the right direction and proof the internet was having a positive impact.
So from 2009-2013 that sunny optimism continued though not as intensely as from 2005-2007 which was the peak, but you knew change was coming, you knew we on the verge of something big.
What we didn't know is what it would turn out to be is people going insane and a massive, powerful movement dedicated tirelessly to wiping out all social norms, morality and decency in the world.
It just feels so insane, like something from an apocalyptic movie or book.
I feel like a lot of this happened because corrupt elites feared the positive potential of the digital age would mean game over for them and have done everything in their power to misdirect things, at the same time, it almost seems baked into the system, what is Woke faggotry if not the step by step evolution of what you used to see on LiveJournal 20 years ago? From LJ to Tumblr to Twitter, cross pollinating with things like the bitter as fuck cynicism of Something Awful?
Say whatever you will about what was specifically going on in the 2000s, but what you had was reasonable hope that while things might be bad now, we might turn a corner into a much better future, you could still have faith that most people were good, it's almost impossible to see the future as anything but a hell on earth or the whole system collapsing like a rotten wooden structure.
hey @Stoner Metal (post too long to quote)
So if I understand that right, "oversocialization" means too many "social rules"?
No wonder "weird" or "cringe" or "problematic" can be such an insult or dirty word to many, and modern urban "society" seems cult-y.Oversocialization is being so mentally assimilated into society and the rules of society that you cannot even think about rebelling against those rules without feeling guilt, anxiety, etc.
Modern urban "society" really is like a cult.
- People who are integrated into "society" are referred to as "members" (like cult members).
- There's countless written and unwritten rules to be "normal" (like being in good standing with a cult).
- "Cringe" is treated like a "sin" or "heresy", as is not believing The Narrative™.
- Those who don't integrate - the "heathens" or "heretics" - are called "losers", "social outcasts", "weirdos", etc.
- Blaming a cult for problems is often if not always discouraged, as if the cult can do no wrong.
People shouldn't go out of their way to be assholes or too freakish, but there's a such thing as too much conformity.
And yet it seems too many worship Clown World "society" like a deity. A religion where "sin" can be called "cringe", or the various soy ways non-conformity is called (like "Nazi"). Also "we as a society" can sound cult-y, like the Current Year "community" overuse.
At this point, Ametican society (and arguably most Western societies) are on parity with Japan in how mentally dull and enslaved most people are to the cultural norms and mores of the masses. It's not that I don't believe we shouldn't have any, but the ypunger generations have no concept of self apart from some group or "community" due to social media telling them they need to be popular or otherwise enslave themselves to popular opinion in order to be liked. I even see it in my church a lot and it's quite sad actually. These people might be functional adults, but they will never truly live life and that's quite depressing. I may be wrong, but as someone born in 1996, I saw the shift with my very own eyes in college from Gen Xers and millenials that acted like genuine people to this zoomer bullshit in the span of a year from 2017-2018. Anyways, back on topic, yeah I miss the 2000s. I can't say it was perfect, but nerdy havens weren't trampled upon by normalfags and I could go out and meet like-minded people IRL with amount of some work and hang out with them (bot to mention finding cute girla to hang out with being less of a nightmare as well), but it wasn't a logistic nightmare as it is now. Frankly, social media has been a travesty for the human race. I don't see why normalfags swear by this shit..

What if "social media" was invented to lead to Current Year conformity on purpose?social media telling them they need to be popular or otherwise enslave themselves to popular opinion in order to be liked
At least the Japanese haven't gone full Clown World like the West has - at least not yet.Ametican society (and arguably most Western societies) are on parity with Japan in how mentally dull and enslaved most people are to the cultural norms and mores of the masses.
there should be an option to delete a post on the lower leftThis was a double post due to some network errors. Ignore this one.
I think it's more of the case that it started off relatively harmless but as moneied interests got into it, it became more explicitly anti-human and a tool to enslave the masses to put it bluntly. What if "social media" was invented to lead to Current Year conformity on purpose?
Maybe. It's been awhile since I've checked up on Japan, but I still think it's getting worse over time. The demographics problem and the general refusal to do anything to solve it is fucking peak Japan to me.At least the Japanese haven't gone full Clown World like the West has - at least not yet.
I tried looking for a delete option but all it says is that I can edit posts. Maybe it's a newfag filter or something. I'll be more careful about posting in the future. Is there anyway I can get in contact with a mod to fix this? This was a genuine fuckup on my network's end.there should be an option to delete a post on the lower left
As I've mentioned before, a new issue appeared in 2020: the constant wearing of "face masks" even when not sick, unlike before coronapanic. I've read that it could become an integral part of Japanese ways long after any coof scare is over. Everyone always wearing "face masks" can be mentally unhealthy, especially for developing children...It's been awhile since I've checked up on Japan, but I still think it's getting worse over time.
As someone who was born in 1997, you're fucking spot on when it comes social media. Sad thing is, you're expected to have one and if not, people look like you like you're fucking crazy or something. At this point, Ametican society (and arguably most Western societies) are on parity with Japan in how mentally dull and enslaved most people are to the cultural norms and mores of the masses. The problem with zoomers from my experience is, they look at the world in a very black and white lense without realizing it's just a bunch of grey. Then again, it is hard to think critically when your prefrontal cortex is getting bombed by dopamine hits every second of the day.Since this was a fucking triple post (Fuck), I might as well add some more grievances I see in the younger generations. They are unavle to criticize their heroes at all. They are either heckin' based or massive cring or some gay shit like that. They rwally have no sense of nuance. Sure there are some people that are literal saints and heroea and some that are irredeemanly evil. But most people fall in the middle, between one extreme or the other. Plus, I've noticed most of their heroes are people that are streamers or some shit like that. No saints like St. Therese of Lisieux; no everyday men doing extrodinary things like Gahndi, Neil Peart (or the other dudes in Rush really but especially him), Richard Feynman, etc. It's always just some lame ass grifting on youtube or Twitch. I don't technology is necessisarily bad but the way we use it is beyond stupid. I'm not saying it should only be for studying and research, but I think under-utilize it.
I don't care about that, and I never hopped on the "social madia" bandwagon.Sad thing is, you're expected to have one and if not, people look like you like you're fucking crazy or something.
More evidence that "social media" is what enabled Clown World? And why Current Year media feels "watered down" and "smartphone-y"?Then again, it is hard to think critically when your prefrontal cortex is getting bombed by dopamine hits every second of the day.
Ok grampsYes because almost everyone I loved died then and I've been dead since.
Hard disagree. The issue with the west is that the economic elite is one sided while the general population is split on many issues. However, the elite does their best to shape and silence public opinion while still moving inside a de jure definition of free speech. At this point, Ametican society (and arguably most Western societies) are on parity with Japan in how mentally dull and enslaved most people are to the cultural norms and mores of the masses.
Wearing face masks was pretty common to wear in east-Asia when commuting, both to protect oneself and others from disease as a form of communal care and responsibility. As I've mentioned before, a new issue appeared in 2020: the constant wearing of "face masks" even when not sick, unlike before coronapanic. I've read that it could become an integral part of Japanese ways long after any coof scare is over. It wont happen. At least not like how it did in the west. The current state of the west is a result of its elites who themselves came into their current form due to a conscious effort from a political movement to become teachers, journalists and artists. At least the Japanese haven't gone full Clown World like the West has - at least not yet.
