Paranoia implies the threat isn't actually there and has no basis at all. Vigilance on the other hand derives from something very, very real.

Just looking at the headlines it is clear that "radical" right-wing dissident groups in the United States are objectively extremely susceptible to infiltration. The abilities of national agencies to utilize operatives and malcontents embedded in certain organizations cannot be underestimated. Presuming someone is watching you is safer then thinking no one is when you as an individual reach the point of thinking "will saying this publicly put a target on my back?".

The media and (to some degree) RNC will assuredly attempt astroturfing Haley because not-Trump, but it runs into the same problem even DeSantis would have of peeling off support from Trump. Milquetoast policy proposals and half-hearted MAGA attitude isn't going to cut it, you need the personality and charisma to actively out-Trump Trump to eat into his voting base - and she has none of that.

It's almost as if her advisors are hoping the woman card will save her once Trump starts directly attacking her, because clearly it'll work now after failing multiple times already.
