I've seen discussion about these things on here quite a bit and I'm surprised a thread like this hasn't been made yet.

Amiibo are these things that you probably already know about because of the constant supply issues and rampant price gouging. (unless your an Aussie apparently) They're kind of like those Trophies from "Smash Bros." series but an actual product instead. Originally they were just for smash Bros. AI, but now they have them for DLC as well as in-game secrets. There's also a shitty Animal Crossing party game. The less we talk about that, the better.

They're relatively detailed figurines, but sometimes the quality control goes wack and produces mildly annoying to outright hilarious results. some people pay top dollar for "defective" amiibo.

Interestingly, people tend to repaint/mod these things, like a freakish amount of people. hell, even OPL himself pumps out "customs" of these things en masse! So I guess if you find/make a custom one of these go and post it or something.

There's another batch of these things coming in a few months too.

The new Kirby ones are coming out at the same time as Planet Robobot, I think (which is soonish, end of May or June.)
No idea about the Squid Sisters but I want them. Given Nintendo's past history of Splatoon amiibos here though I'm probably not going to get my hands on them for a loooong time. (:_( It took me months just to get the other Splatoon ones and I still don't have the green one.

The green one only comes in the three pack, I think.

Shit, squid sister Amiibos? Why am I only learning about this now? They're the only ones I WANT Amiibos of.

I'm waiting for the last Smash Brothers amiibos and then I'm done.

I like collecting the Fire Emblem and Zelda ones.

So of course the FE ones are a bitch to get a hold of. *sigh*

If you don't mind spending a little more, Amazon has a very healthy supply of Japanese imports. I'm not talking like $50, more like $20 which basically covers the cost of shipping from Japan.

while i am a sad no money Nintendo fanboy. I think that the amiibo could have been done better. while the quality of the figures are solid. i believe that the unlocked content for them could be done better. i think that each amiibo should unlock something in supported instead of just the series its part of. for example you use caption falcon on hyrule warriors and you get a costume, or use charizard on fire emblem fates and you get a special dragon class character based on him. i just want to see more shit done with them. i am my purchases to more then just nice figure that could unlock a AI bot in smash. like what the fuck are ness and duck hunt going unlock after smash?

They actually already did that for a few things. Some of the Smash amiibos give alternate outfits in a few games, Mario Kart 8 and Yoshi's Wooly's world do that. The 3 Kirby ones do something in that.. Wii U game that I forgot the name of, the Zelda ones provide hearts, arrows and bombs in Twilight Princess HD. Granted the last two are still within their own series but the first 2 examples aren't and those are the ones that just came to mind. Idk if there's others.

I'm pretty sure Ness and Duck hunt unlock skins in Mario Maker. But yeah they really need to do more with these things. I personally like the ones that unlock optional challenge modes in some games because it adds replay value if you're into that.

i am fully awake of the like three games that use a good chunk of them. but theirs the problem only three out of them use a shit ton of them. like is too much to ask to more games support most of them. i bet it wouldn't be hard or expensive for them, to do shit like re-model impa's sword in Hryule Warriors to look like Shulk's mondo or hell even like @The Lawgiver said a challenge. like in twilight priciness hd when your in the cave of shadows you use other amiibos to under different challenges like use Bowser or Wario and you get like challenge were you fight a hard mode version of a boss you defeat. give more a reason for people to buy other then "oh for 15 bucks i can like costume in two games". i want to be like "hey this Mewtwo amiibo unlocks a character in one game, a costume in two other games, and a challenge mode in another" i want my 15 bucks to more then a alright figure that promised more it delivered.

I believe the Ganondorf amiibo does something like that in Twilight Princess HD. Something to consider tho is that this would be harder to for even some first party games. Remember Nintendo doesn't make all their games in-house, many of them are done by partnered companies and separate divisions. Having someone weigh down on these devs w/ "Make sure your games use X amount of our pricey plastic toys in X amount of ways or you're getting the boot" could hurt quality. Also, I think most people wouldn't be happy w/ lots of exclusive content being hidden behind a non-downloadable paywall.

Super Mario Maker uses Amiibo in a great way: Each one unlocks a character costume that is entirely available otherwise by completing challenges. The new Kirby is also using a pretty good method of giving Kirby a specific power and a healing item, and non-registered ones (like Sonic or Bayonetta for example) just give a random power and smaller healing item.

I think that the amiibos were overall a failure but they are an example of nintendo trying to use a blue ocean strategy that has worked for them in the past and probably will continue to work in the future

dude i not asking for major stuff here, i just asking that some amiibo get more use. cause amiibo like shulk, ROB, Little Mac and Ness don't really get you alot. i'd be fine with simple re-skins or re-colors of stuff. its just the 15 dollar mark for like one costume in two games is bit of a rip off. it also doesn't help that some of them are a bitch to find. honestly if they a simple figure the only thing i complaint about is why the hell i don't have a Ike yet. but hey i am just that broke fanboy that complaining as buys the ones he can.
