General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more talk on here today about the termination of Oceane Otoishi from Kawaii.

Apparently she had been contacting people outside of the company with other vtuber's doxx information and getting those people to spam their chats. According to some people on Reddit, she was targeting Nene and Aletta, the two people at the company who were more popular than her, and trying to defame them.

Pretty crazy bombshell that was dropped today. Certainly wasn't expecting this behavior from her. But she is a woman, so it can't be too much of a shock.
Gotta say I was honestly shocked to see the announcement.

I never knew much about Oceane or her content. She did a lot of singing and ASMR stuff, right? Her channel seemed like it was doing well: 50k subs at the time of her termination.

I dropped in on one of her streams a couple months ago, because I wanted to get an idea for what her overall vibe was. It was a stream where she was playing Monster Hunter: Rise with randoms/viewers (should be a cozy time right?), and she was a couple drinks in when I felt like the BPD crazy started leaking. Maybe she's just a mean drunk, but she was clearly getting unironically mad and starting to talk trash. I wish I could describe it better, just that a sensor tripped in my head and I thought "some recognizable BPD pinay energy here." That was the last I watched of her stuff. I figured we all have our off moments, her audience was fine with it, and that would be that.

If she did go after Letti and Nene specifically, as seems to be the case, that's extra dangerous for Kawaii because it would mean she was (intentionally or otherwise) targeting the beating heart of the company's culture and their bottom line. Letti has been growing explosively (she deserves it imo), and it's obvious she and Nene both take their positions very seriously. Neither of them are really my cup of tea, but I respect their output. The company would obviously be in the right to drop the hammer.

What an absolute pants-on-head display from Oceane, nuking her own clearly successful channel and professional prospects like that. I can't even wrap my head around what the plan was, which unfortunately does lead me back to thinking she's just a crazy bitch. I feel for everyone who genuinely liked her and had no reason to suspect anything.

ETA:
Based on what Reina said during her short chatting stream today, this situation was ongoing for a while and not just a single sudden incident. I noticed some time back that Nene frequently shows up in Aletta's chat, sometimes joining stream voice just to hang out or to ride shotgun during scary game streams - generally doing the kind of support and mentorship stuff you like to see from a company's Gen 1 talent. This is on top of the planned collabs they've done. If both Nene and Aletta were the primary targets of this gay op, then Nene's extra effort in support of Aletta probably made a huge difference in mitigating the damage. Her "I'm your angel" shtick is maybe a bit cringe, but she's my pick for MVP here. Gotta give credit where it's due.

How much does Kronii love me? Is there a chance that every woman you talk to in the future is her in disguise, she probably does have the powers to rewind time so its possible. How far will this go, when you go home and visit mom what if Kronii has replaced her to just feel the vacarious familial love. Soon she’ll start slipping bits of her blood/skin into your meals so she can be “inside” you. If you try to see through her disguise she’ll use her time-manipulation abilities to play off the accusation and call you weird, only later for you to find out that character you accused has been killed off and you’ll never see Tasha from the grocery store again. You keep wondering where all these people she abducts and replaces go. At the beginning she’ll be convinced that she can’t come forward to you because you’ll think she’s a weirdo and that hurts her soul, so she’ll keep going with the facade, possibly for years. Eventually she’ll work up the courage to ask you to come over to her place as herself. When you get there you’ll be invited to her bedroom, as you open the door you see a waterbed hand stitched together, made from the skin of all those women who suddenly disappeared, the husk sac of flesh filled with their own blood to give the bedding the true “waterbed” feel. Youre in too deep now, you’ve seen everything she is capable of, to even attempt to flee will be seen as a refusal of her love and she won’t have it. You reluctantly agree to lie down with her so that you may live another day and hopefully escape this hellish situation. The bed is oddly warm and uncomfortable. You grab the fleshy pillow to place your head, its soft albiet a bit squishy. “Do you like it, it was made with a lot of love and not only mine” she says. As you fumble around to get comfortable you flip around the pillow only to see the face of your mother stitched into the pillow. “Now we are just one big happy family, forever” Kronii says as she grasps your hand. You slowly choke out a weak affirmative, confirming for Kronii your undying love. She is now happy, and her happiness shall last forever as long as you never, ever, ever leave her side.

I don't understand why this site only has a single board to discuss vtubers. You'd think after 3 years and 7K pages there would be a few different threads to segregate discussions based on different agencies or something.
Realize that the site you're on, Vtubers, and weeb shit in general is not really the target audience and even beyond that is often side eyed with distrust because of the types of degeneracy that too often sprout from it. We are an oddity on this site and in a lot of ways this is a containment thread. It just kind of ends up that the rules of containment have a side effect of making this thread more pleasant than 99% of other places to talk about vtubers by forcefully filtering out the coomer shit and pedobait.

Beyond that company specific threads would just encourage retard level tribalism for some while just being annoying for most who don't keep their viewing to specific companies. I'd say the method of "everyone get along together and don't act like a tribal faggot" is the better option.
Doesn't really make sense when HoloFes preparation is still going
Also the announcement was that it was cancelled, not postponed
Realistically it probably comes down to a venue decision, there is no country wide lockdown but individual venues have their own rules and standards and can pull the plug in response to ongoing circumstances.
They might be able to just switch venues or find a way to push it through and make it work (and they expressed such a possibility in their announcement) but any change of date or venue is still going to require rollouts of refunds (either because the date change means people who bought tickets can no longer attend or because a venue change just means they can't actually transfer a ticket from one to the other.

It's confusing as hell how and why choices get made how they do, some events are going on just fine, huge events even but others are getting taken down and cancelled, what I would say is the confusing part of this event in particular is just the speed at which we went from announcement to cancellation (wasn't it only announced like a week ago?)

Because you're all confined here in order to not infect the other threads.
Be thankful that such a thread exists since Null and most of us absolutely despise, with good reasons, Vtubers.

I wonder if the weird harrassment that caused Nene to close her marshmallow account was connected to this crazy bitch. Was that brought up?

Reina didn't talk about it in her stream. That's the only extended discussion by any Kawaii talent that I've taken the time to watch so far. I'd definitely be interested in learning more about that, though.
I'd say there's a good chance it's related.
Safe money is on it being connected somehow, I agree. Reina said Oceane's contract breaches included "mobilizing individuals," which I take to mean that she directed people to brigade the social portals of her targets. No idea if there's been any talk from the talents that will shed more light on the details, but I'm interested to look for it just in case. I don't have any reason to doubt her, but I'd rather have more sources of info.

For posterity, Pippa briefly talked about feeling guilty laughing at children and the mentally disabled on-stream earlier. Timestamped embed below, with the timecode 0:10:58 to 0:12:02.

But basically I just wanted to watch people act crazy, chat. (...) I wanted to put on, like, cringe videos, right? But then I was like 'I don't want to laugh at cringe, right? I don't wanna... I'm trying to get better, chat. I'm trying to be more... 'kind.' I feel like laughing at cringe is not very 'kind.' Because a lot of it is, like, people with mental disabilities, right? A lot of cringe stuff is, like, people with mental disabilities, or, like, children. And it feels kinda weird. I don't really like the culture of picking on, like, literal children, y'know? I used to, I used to... but the older I get, the more... bad I feel, and the more... I don't know. It's just... they're children. 'Yawn?' I'M SORRY! I'M HAVING A MOMENT OF REFLECTION, OKAY?!
I have some thoughts about this. The kind of mindset she seems to be falling into, that of feeling bad for laughing at certain things not deemed 'acceptable' and wanting to 'be better' or 'self-reflect', is a very slippery slope that eventually leads to accidentally becoming condescending / virtue-signaling to her audience. And considering the heavy association/audience overlap and inspiration she's funneled up to now from people specifically like Mister Metokur, whos' entire motto and modus operandi was to laugh at everything and everyone, no exceptions, that kind of thing is guaranteed to not go over well. Thankfully, within literally less than 20 minutes of the stream kicking off, she completely disregarded what she was saying and still had a great time doing pseudo lolcow deepdives on entertaining schizos, so it ended up essentially being moot lipservice and nothing came from it, but still - I hope and have faith that it wasn't some kind of dark omen of things to come. Being able and willing to laugh at everything on the Internet is a very important trait to have, and if she were to actually begin noticeably backtracking on an essential aspect of character like that in her content, especially at this point, it would be a recipe for people to begin perceiving betrayal and disappointment. Yes, this is big overthinking, but I feel it's important to be said anyways.

Given that it has been proven in the past Pippa lurks here and may still continue to do so, I'd like to personally say to her if she ends up seeing this that having an 'edgy' sense of humor is not a bad thing whatsoever, nor is having zero filter when it comes to what you find funny. Sense of humor has literally zero indication on whether or not you are a 'good person' or your 'maturity level', regardless of what Twitter or Reddit may try and guilt you into believing, & laughing at children and the mentally ill is perfectly fine - it's what Jim did constantly in his prime, with things like his Tumblrisms series being a prime example of this. Trying to alter this specific aspect of yourself in an attempt to fit an arbitrary definition of what defines a 'good person' is an unhealthy mindset to have. You may have flaws, and by all means you should continue attempting to self-improve, but finding 'taboo' things like mentally ill disabled retards funny is not one of them, nor should you try and force change this specific part of yourself if you truly do still find things funny deep down. Don't self-guilt over humor, and don't feel bad for laughing at things.

i can understand wanting to hold yourself to a higher standard but first, you have to ask "am i doing it because i want to be better or because i want others to think better of me?" most people choose the second option and ends up shooting themselves in the foot sooner or later for laughing at something they think is funny but not allowed to laugh at. Metokurs rule is such a simple, yet excellent way to weed out the genuine person from the grifters.

Honestly, I don't get why people think the vtuber fandom is weird, all things considered, we're pretty standard, just a bunch of retards talking about their favorite oshis like you would a celebrity
