Anime News Network (ANN), Christopher Macdonald & Co. - "Unbiased" Reporting on All Things Anime Related By Snobbish Quebec-Based Web Company. Acquired by Kadokawa.

Does anyone even take anime reviews seriously? I just look through the /a/ catalog to see what might interest me.
I'd argue nobody but the over socialized takes them seriously
I enjoy reading reviews. I actually enjoy hearing why someone liked or disliked any given topic so long as they're articulate and respectful.
(yeah, I'm a dork like that)
Reviews can also drive and generate site traffic, through debates as to why a show maybe good or bad, which is why ANN still keeps them around, I have no doubt the reviews are one on the last things that people go to the site for. I only to tell them they're wrong in the forum.
However, when you're a shithead like Lynzee who tries to shut down any king of push back for a review, it's not surpring that even those are starting to be ignored.
ANN gonna ANN I guess.

I only pay so much attention to the incest ring because shit's like a car crash: I know I shouldn't look but I just can't turn away. I honestly wish I never even found out about the incest ring and stayed with only knowing ANN as the anime news site.
For the record, this was my first exposure to Caitlin. At the time my thought was "who is this Caitlin Moore bint and why is she slinging shit at a good underrated show like The Ones Within, jabbing at the characters in particular when it has best girl Yuzu". Around that time she had just started writing for ANN, and was now churning out shitty reviews in addition to writing on the preview guide wherein she also hates nearly all the good shows like every other writer minus OCCASIONALLY Theron. Also around that same time I started seeing how much ANN's staff really show their ass on Twitter and the forums (besides their writing) along with their butt-buddies; which I hadn't known about at first despite reading/skimming thru ANN for years.

I learned long ago that giving a shit about an arbitrary number someone else assigns next to a show is just fucking pointless, I just watch whatever interests me regardless of how negatively or positively reviewed it is and get my own opinion.

I was reading AniFem's Dies Irae review from 2017 (written by none other than Caitlin herself) and found this in the comments:

It's not as condescending as the way you talk to people arguing with you (1, 2, 3 as just a few exhibits from this thread), but go on.

This was a forum post from back in October I saw when it came up but forgot to post here, Caitlin unwarrantedly going on a thread basically trying to ruin someone's hype for a newly-announced isekai LN anime adaptation. Same energy as the tweet from Nick about Angel Next Door that came up not too long ago:

I just want to say that the way AniFem is described is an oxymoron of in and itself. At least when I mock Anime News Network for what it is, it at least shows what it’s goal is.

With AniFem, they’re insinuating that feminist politics should be injected into every review regarding anime, and I have to question what does any of this even have to do with the anime medium itself.

I learned to stop taking them seriously when I was, what, 15? The thing that tipped me off was the overreverence for Evangelion, I just decided to watch whatever mecha I wanted.

That brings us to the anime YouTubers which are a mostly untapped can of worms that deserves to be milked. Besides Digibruh of course.

One of the YouTubers that trashed one of my favorite shows murdered his entire family. I believe his name was Mr. Anime, and he even went the Randy Stair route and posted a cryptic video named "Mr. Anime Is Planning Something" that hinted at what he was going to do. I believe the fucked up creep also killed all his pets. I don't think he has a thread here because it was a while ago. I'm sure the True Crime people covered him already because they are always going to the bottom the barrel for more muck to talk about.

One of the fucked up things about it is after the murders is these weebs would keep coming to his community page on YouTube or post on Tumblr or wherever else about how he was this big influential deal for YouTube anime critics (he was just another dumb ranting autist) and some even said they would miss him. Others were more concerned about how it would affect YouTube critics or the "anime community" than about the murders. Most of it wasn't trolling. I actually took screencaps of some of that because it was so insane but it was probably lost on an old PC. Like some of these people were more concerned about the fact he woudln't review the new season than that he killed his own family and actually think he contributed something to the "fandom." Pretty fucked up.

They even have a podcast where they discuss their favorite anime, while for some reason acting like high-esteemed historians of Japanese culture because they watched Evangelion for the first time as a teenager

Thinking they know what make a thing good or bad and what shows to not watch at all and your racist if you watch this or that. Bunch of tourists.

Gigguk and AnimeMan (the hapa) regularly use hentai shit for "comedy". Their content is just a cheap knockoff of DemolitionDs without any substance.

Anitube has truly tremendous milking potential because: 1) millions watch it 2) it's obvious those guys are "le heckin ironic degenerates" 3) they're corpo shills (Kadokawa literally has them on their paycheck list).

Could their thread work? Maybe, if the prospering grounds show promise of dirt (which I believe those fags certainly have). Is this the right place to discuss it? No, we're off topic.

Was looking at the article about Digital Manga getting their store shut down for Kodomo no Jikan from back in 2018, a certain someone was on the forum thread:

Here's a real shocker Caitlin, it's a f**king comic that's pretty damn far from reality. But you can still ban the underage gravure idols because at least that's actually sexualizing children.

I don't actually watch Anitube anymore. I've had more than enough patience to waste on clickbait like, "This chapter/episode just revealed a shocking revelation about this totally random character", only for it to be; you guessed it, a theory or worse, something already obvious.

Sorry to bring back up something I had previously posted on here, but I was reminded about this:
I distinctly remember that review and forum thread because someone called out ANN's bullshitting while Caitlin's reply completely ignored it.
and goodness it's actually hilarious just how pathetic and disingenuous Caitlin was here. Literally had a revolting peasant call ANN's bullshit out to a perfect T, and she just pulled the ol' tactic of quote cherrypicking instead of actually addressing the post.
Also: "We're here to write our opinions in a way that can help people decide whether or not they want to watch a show." Like yeah? That's exactly why no one appreciates you niggas punching down on everything.

Slippery slope arguments once again are a real thing. They can’t differentiate from fantasy and reality, yet they like to still pretend that they care about sexual abuse of children and think they can get away with defaming and falsely calling people “pedos” or groomers.

Why do these people stay at the forum? Like they get what's wrong, but they still put up with it. ANN and their staff hates you, like the respectable thing would be to tell them to bug off with their self importance and leave. Also this site isn't independent now, so people should lodge complaints at the entities that own their stock about how they just exist to slander anime and manga. Then we may get some progress on this dumpsterfire ending.

They most likely don't realize they could go above ANN's head and complain to Kadokawa.
The poor bastards might just be Stockholmed at this point.

How did these peasants respond to AniFem's "w-we're queer too!" defense?

Unfortunately Caitlin was silent on this debacle, though she did like the replies trying to defend AniFem.
P.S. Samantha, didn't you fire a trans writer from Anime Herald at Lynzee's behest because they dared criticize ANN's shitty review punching down on FukaBoku?

The left really seems to not be able to just enjoy things.
