China is once again embarrassing the US and we're letting them. Is it paranoid to figure out that this is happening as soon as Biden announced the end of the COVID-19 emergency?

strongly doubt the two are related. I suspect ending the COVID state of emergency had more to do with pressure from Congress that resulted in Ron Klain's departure than anything with China.
This is just classic Biden choosing inaction over doing something because that's what happens when a government is run by committee because the executive has tapioca for brains.

On another note, call me dumb and naive, but this "weather balloon" thing doesn't scare me at all. I don't even understand the point of it. It's pretty much the most inefficient way for the Chinese to spy on us considering how many spies and corrupted officials they already have in this country. Then again, maybe the point of it isn't to actually spy on us. It's just there as an eff you to Biden.

"The Chinese have spy satellites so who cares?" is a pretty bad argument in my mind. It's like saying that because the Chinese government has really good hacking capabilities that we shouldn't care that the CCP implants loyalists into Western industries and universities. If it is a Chinese spy balloon and it has no value to the Chinese, then it wouldn't be floating over the United States right now. The DoD has been super cucked over the last few years and the cracks are really starting to show. The only thing that would make it more predictable is that we can't shoot it down because we gave all of those type of missiles to Ukraine.

Maybe think about the sort of things that China could slap on the side of the next balloon that would make all of those opposed to do anything about it right now demand Biden do something about it immediately because it's a threat to life?

No matter how ineffective of a surveillance method it could potentially be it's still an insult to the national sovereignty of the United States and its position in the world.

Do people realize how ridiculous and pathetic these excuses over not doing anything about this sound? In the past and in the Cold War the United States has had planes or drones shot down by countries due to flying "surveillance" aircraft over them. Let's apply the logic used currently on those situations if the glove was on the other hand so to speak.

"Why should we shoot down that U-2? The Americans have infiltrators anyway, they won't gain anything from using spy planes."
"Why should we take out that drone? It can't obtain that much information anyway and American satellites already see everything anyway."

As for the "if its popped it will fall and hit some people" line, does anyone really think an entity that is supposed to be able to figure out where bullets and ordinance is supposed to go with their ballistics can't do some calculations to determine a location where an object and its potential debris falling from the sky is supposed to land out of the way of human life?

I never said anything about not shooting it down. That's not an issue for me. I just find it to be the most obnoxious way for them to spy on us. Consider all the other ways they could do that without alerting us. They could have just as easily used American made drones (not the military ones mind you) or even a private aircraft to surveil us, but instead they chose to use something that they can't really control. Why?

I would further add, this is also probably the least efficient way to embarrass us as well. They could just as easily flown aircraft or drones near Alaskan, Guam, or Hawaiian airspace if they really wanted out attention.
