From what I've seen, he'll always choose the largest character. Maybe in Tekken where he chooses Paul and King because he can just mash grapples with King or demoman and Phoenix Smasher with Paul.
Once again for you newfags. DSP likes the most efficient characters. Which is to say those with the most damaging moves on paper. This is why in ST he played Vega/Claw, because that asshole's punch goes a long ways across the screen, and does a lot of damage. Same for Bison/Dictator and Balrog/Boxer. All three characters just have dumb bullshit damage on a lot of their buttons or moves. He doesn't fucking care for combos. If he can get them, good. But he only knows a couple. This is the same as to why he plays grapplers. Easy inputs, and throws do stupid amounts of damage and very few of them care about combos.

This is the key to Phil's wins. This is why he is a skill check in lobbies. Because all this damage is pretty fragile. Usually by being pretty unsafe on block or tons of start up. It's the big trade off. That's why fighting games reward combos so much. New players can take the easy damage, but expert players understand the patience and knowledge of combos. It's also why he gets mad at everything that isn't Super Turbo. Because SF2 didn't really understand combos yet. The game was built around getting in hits. Which is exactly how Phil plays. Nothing wrong with that on the face of it, I like SamSho a lot. But even SF2's meta is about combos now. You just see a lot less of it in the ports DSP plays, because the people who play the meta of SF2 are on Fightcade, and the people playing those ports are just chilling and trying get some nostalgia.

In short; Phil is lazy and wants the most damage for the least amount of finger and brain work. So he picks big burly characters that do that, typically. He can't figure out to better this strategy, which is a good starting strategy to learn, but it's got a ceiling in how good you can get. Thus Phil gets filtered. repeat ad nauseum.

I'll expand a little more and it goes into newer games MvC, Injustice and Dragonball Fighterz and that's super armor or whatever those games call it. He'd always play the ginormo dudes cause they'd have the super armor to make up for being slow he did it with Solomon Grundy in Injustice, the Thanos/Nemesis combo in MvC and Android 16 in Fighterz.

learned my lesson from telling the internet about my cringe medical history of ignorance induced ailments.

anyways I gotta wear gloves full of lotion to bed for my fucked up stigmata hands cause they was bleeding for weeks and I ignored it.

Edit. He beleieves piracy isn't a big deal if your game sells in droves. Selling 11 million copies of God of war means you shouldn't care about people pirating your game.

Does that mean if he hits the tier 3 tips goal, that it's fine for people to restream? What about the streams themselves? If the superbowl event goes tier 3 rewards, can I rip it and re upload it as my own?

The audacity of a man whose seethed over adblockers to hold these believes. Truly impressed. All those hours ranted about ILLeGALLL restreamers. Going as far as to compare it to robbing a bank. What a pivot on practically every belief you hold towards people who make content about you and restream your shit. Awesome stream today.
