I've written before that, because of the way our health systems work, the treatments that Tony and Kate want aren't banned, but they are also not used as the first-line treatment for youth with gender dysphoria. England (not the UK, health is devolved) is shifting from a single-centre model (GIDs at the Tavistock) to more local provision, but that local provision won't be of the kind of treatments Tony and Kate want. Instead it'll be psychotherapy and other similar support, which the gruesome twosome have been calling "conversion therapy".

One of Cass's main points was that youth with gender dysphoria deserve the same quality of treatment as any other patient, and not the evidence-free experimentation GIDs was performing.

Those advocating against structural factors and the necessary role of the state just don’t fit the classic conception of “the left”. This is especially true since Marx, whose most important contribution was to stress that material reality (and not idealism) was the crucial starting point of understanding politics and economics.

The contemporary US “far left” is so far removed from this I cringe with embarrassment whenever they’re described as such. Sex isn’t a material reality, only subjective internal feelings count. The history of class formation and socioeconomic status doesn’t count, only some transhistorical racism that floats in the air to infect white people without university educations.

Bringing this back to Tony, admittedly someone whose politics are as consistent as a bowl of tapioca pudding, we have him demanding that the state provide financial assistance to people whose internal feelings make them believe that they are at some vague but real risk of mass killing, yet also that the state should play no role in determining which medical procedures are unsafe to provide.

You have to at least admit that these people are on the left though.
