My bad. Was definitely not trying to post misinformation. Is there any way to delete it? Not because i dont want to look like a retard but bc i dont want to spread false information. TLDR: sorry fellow Farmers. I dun fucked up. 🙇‍♀️
Don't feel too bad. You're actually doing quite well as far as newfags go, and the article provided an unintended benefit: it's nice to have a citeable source in which it's mentioned that a zoo doesn't have a special large animal MRI. ❤️

Just think of the logistics of it. It never made sense to say zoos have special mris for large animals on site. For vet medicine at that scale (large animals), ultrasound and X-rays will do the trick. Also remember these are animals and such, so they are treated differently than humans. A humans with a broken leg gets a cast. A horse with a broken leg ends up six feet underground if it’s a complicated fracture. This is because when horses break a leg, the bones tend to shatter due to their body weight. Also, horses are constantly on their feet so the leg is unlikely to heal.

That said, uncomplicated fractures are rehabable. Think simple fracture, or chip fractures.

Open, complex, radial displacement and articulate fractures that are moderate or severe have poor prognosis.

Also for broken bones, radiograph and ultrasound are enough on a horse to diagnose it (as i mentioned earlier in the comment). They don’t mri horses for the purpose of assessing broken bones.

If only Reddit really did block misinformation.

To be fair being "fat" doesn't always mean you're unhealthy and being "thin" doesn't mean you are. But that's not the takeaway here.

Being OBESE is unhealthy and nobody out there is saying that obesity is healthy. That's the disconnect. They're just saying that "fat" doesn't mean you're unhealthy and taking it to extremes. All I'm saying is if you get chest pains reaching for the TV remote and your idea of a "snack" is a King Size KitKat then you need to lose some weight and exercise.

Oh, absolutely. I've sperged about it before here. I just think it's potentially useful to have a short article written for the lay public in which a zoo actually clarifies the hoary old large animal MRI chestnut.

This comes up again and again here so I'm mentally filing away the article for next time.

Yes, that’s fair. Just remember, ALR is too fat to fit in an mri machine. Imagine that. Too fat for an imaging machine so she has no idea if the cancer she had truly is gone. A cancer she had because she was obese. And was that a wake up call? Absolutely not.

Ps for anyone who doesn’t know, being overweight or obese increases your risk of thirteen cancers total.

According to the cdc, more than 684,000 obesity-associated cancers occur in the United States each year, including more than 210,000 among men and 470,000 among women. That’s scary. But no, the fats will reeeeee that science/medicine is anti fat and that being 400 lbs is absolutely sexy.

And another thing! They could make the world's biggest MRI machine just for Amber, but there's no way that the resulting images would be useable because of how fucking fat she is.

Ah yeah. Plus extra time for scanning.

Have fun reading this case report

Fat lady gets imaged and mri reveals a lighter lodged under her pannus.

Loved this bit:

A note about the patient's penchant for storing her lighter in her pannus was placed in her electronic medical record.

Fat imagining is always brings horrors in itself. Seeing the human inside the adipose so contorted is amazing. Look at how absurdly far forward the glutes are, it's like there's a 5 inch pillow jammed under her ass. Then the sacrum is angled so dramatically it's nauseating. Then the femurs practically look like she's in a chair pose or has her legs bent up, all while lying "flat". They wonder why there's so much pain, or even why they end up with edema or tingling without diabetic neuropathy, just look at that spinal column abuse laying down and it's no mystery.

You’re absolutely right. It’s deffo horrifying. I want to but don’t want to know how much visceral fat is surrounding the heart and other structures.

On an interesting note, my sister survived a stabbing because she was obese. The object was a steak knife. That is horrifying to know, isn’t it? There are other problems with her too like lodged BB gun pellets that can’t come out and some other interesting tidbits but if you want to know more, you can always ask me privately. Don’t want to derail the thread.

In "oh, this is interesting" (assuming it really is Tammy and not someone pretending to be her), I was just listening to Alan Roberts' latest livestream, and Tammy Lemon showed up in the comments. Time stamp is -10.43 (i.e. ten minutes from the end, I gather livestream timing works in reverse from regular video length). She comments to thank him, and say she finds what he said earlier in the stream (in re: recovering from a binge) very inspiring. It will be interesting to see if she actually implements his advice regarding not eating such tremendous volumes of refined carbohydrates.

I also found the livestream (and the video he was commenting on) interesting because I don't have personal knowledge of what binge eating is like, so others may also find it informative:

Edited to add: Alan later checked, and it seems that that really is Tammy. Interesting times, and I hope he can really help her.

What’s the general consensus of Tammy Lemon on this board? Some people like her because she doesn’t make excuses, but I’m not familiar enough with her.

Oh my god, I have read that one. I might have even posted it here. It inspired a search for more articles about panniculus foreign bodies.

Bless her massive, boggy heart.

I don't think there is a general consensus. A lot of people like her, and she is genuinely very personable as well as being intelligent, articulate, and artistically talented. Interpretation of her actions is where we differ: at first blush a lot of people really like that she appears to be honest and realistic about her mental health issues and highly disordered eating, but speaking personally I'm less inclined to see it as purely honesty, and wanting to chronicle what she's experiencing, and maybe helping others, as exhibitionism. It gets her attention, praise, and Youtube income. To be completely fair I'll add that she may not even be aware of her baser impulses, or knowingly manipulating her audience.

She does have lolcow traits, however, where she justifies her own behaviour even while claiming she wants to recover from BED. She *insists* on eating vast amounts of carbs -- largely refined ones -- not paired with protein or fibre, essentially because it's what she likes, and it's more important to her to like her food than eat for nutrition or satiety. (I'm not saying anyone should hate their food, just that pure gustatory liking shouldn't overrule everything else all the time.) She also buys copious amounts of food that she knows she's going to binge on -- whether she's actively planning to binge or not. All the while she moans about not eating enough, overriestricting, etc. etc.

My favourite (and one of the things that tips her over into lolcow territory for me) is her repeated, arrogant assertion that she knows how to lose weight, and that her regular food is fine. If she's just eating that and not binging then she loses weight. Well and good, but if her regular food doesn't prevent her from binging it's not really right either is it? But she can't explore that, because it would potentially result in not eating multiple slices of bread and butter with chocolate sprinkles first thing in the morning, which would be Un-Dutch. No can do! <-- Viewed with a clinical eye it's astonishing how someone who is otherwise so very bright and so well informed can completely lie to themselves in service of what is likely an addiction.

Great minds think alike.

I am going to have to start watching her. Pairing protein with carbs is a very good idea. Especially if refined. Fats and protein take longer to digest than simple carbs.

Honestly, i have started losing sympathy for her. She had a whole video dedicated to eating garbage American foods and it genuinely confused me. Not sure if this has been posted already and i'm feeling extra lazy so ill just put the URLs (#1 and #2). I time stamped #2 to where the snacking begins.

If you're morbidly obese and trying to lose weight AND you have BED, why the fuck would you bring snack foods into your house? I've lost a lot of weight and it's due in part to purging my house of "food" (ultra processed addictive shit) and asking that people do not bring any of that crap over or, if they do, please take it with them or it will go straight into the garbage when they leave.

Tammy was sympathetic in the beginning, she appeared to be honest about her binging (in comparison to all the other hamplanet lolcows) but it is obvious she isn’t really trying to get better. Anyone genuinely trying to stop binging would not regularly buy multiple pints of Ben & Jerrys ice cream, and every single Dutch pastry you can get your hands on, as well as the enormous meals she makes for herself.

I would be interested to see someone make a thread on her, I think now that she has experienced some success on YouTube she will just continue with her performance weight loss and making constant excuses. Definitely an interesting one to follow with the amount she deludes herself.

It's because they're weak and they can't pass up their favorite snacks. It's the same reason why some people on strict diets wind up derailing their progress with "cheat meals" which turn into cheat days and they undo all the progress they made that week. I mean sometimes you need a little something when you've been dieting because all the sugar-free stuff is just nasty. But you take a bite. Or you allow yourself a slice of pizza. Or you have one cookie not the whole box of them. Oddly enough the people that are able to keep to proper diet and exercise are the people that are able to give themselves the occasional reward and don't have to go back and eat them all five minutes later.

What is starting to annoy me is the endless making of sweets. In her last video she made and decorated three ginger bread houses with the excuse that it's a shared activity with her nieces and nephews. But there are a million things that small kids like to do that don't involve making candy - you're the adult, you should lead here. Tammy made sweets/baked goods for Thanksgiving, Sinterklaas, Christmas, New Year's, every time there is an occassion.

She wants to not just lose weight but return to a normal balanced way of eating, where she can sometimes have sweets and unhealthy foods, which is good. But she's not there yet. And claiming that home made stuff isn't a binge food for her like she did in the most recent video is a complete cope. Tammy can still make it, but she needs to be strict with herself and willing to make real changes in her habits, at least for a while until she breaks her carb addiction.

Exactly, she plans out what food exactly she would like to binge on so she definitely has it available to eat when she feels like it. I know people with binge eating disorder that will stand in the kitchen and eat plain slices of bread in the middle of the night, they don’t buy high calorie food specifically to binge on.

To me it seems similar to an alcoholic that is trying to abstain from drinking, but keeping a bottle of vodka in the kitchen just in case. Or even to drink small amounts from it every so often to prove to themselves that they have overcome their addiction and no longer need to drink the bottle in one go, which is kind of what she’s doing by acting like she can keep junk food around without binging. It’s ludicrous, she is nowhere near the stage of being able to have junk food around and not eat it.
