For those saying its super easy to tell AI voices apart...I mean, yes and no. I can see this being used quite badly in the future and boomers have a way easier time being fooled by shit. An example I've been thinking about the last few days is, what if someone starts calling in bomb threats using an AI voice? Sure after an investigation they're going to find out that person didn't really do it but they're going to hear an eerily close recording of the victim and think 'well it has to be them and they're lying'. The police already have a hard time with getting totally irrelevant fake calls and ventilating people with bullets without the added layer of someone conning their voice. Whoever the victim of the harassment is, hopefully not dead after a police raid, will likely have to sit in the clink for two weeks while digital forensics combs all their shit and proves without a doubt they had nothing to do with it.

I've seen a few examples of AI and Machine learning videos, like with the latest Twitch dude fiasco (Cant remember his name, because I honestly don't care) but the Joe Biden one Null posted made my jaw drop. Not only is the video quality good, but the speech has his inflections, his mannerisms, and style of speaking. It's incredible.


And it's fucking scary.

This will be abused. It probably already is. Glowies undoubtedly see it's potential. "Hey, the CIA needs more funding, Mr. President. Really hate to see a convincing video of you get released."

People with enemies see it's potential. In this age of viral videos, people share shit 5 seconds after viewing it without even checking to see if it's accurate. As long as it suits their opinion or agenda, or would get them likes/popularity.

Corporations are seeing dollar signs. "We can either market the software, market the software used to combat this, sell the data of the users, or use search engines to look for real or fake videos of our customers or employees."


It's long been said that information wars are more important than physical or cultural ones. Well this just threw a giant nuke into it.


Although if anyone ever makes a deep fake video of me clappin cheeks with Megan Thee Stallion and Lizzo in a threeway, I wouldn't be that opposed to it.

A lot of people seem to assume we, the unwashed masses, are seeing the top of the line of this tech before anyone else. Not that they haven't used manually doctored footage, or been able to convince people of an overdosing felonious fentanyl addict being restrained as a pretense for regime sanctioned violence. It's easier for the powerful to lie than many think.

Conversely, power will move swiftly to tell you what you should believe is fake, and videos which may or may not be doctored or ML generated are no exception.

Boomers and people who believe anything on social media because someone said so (mostly boomers) will fall for this. The big problem is that it turns into a snowball effect under the right circumstances. If one person panics over a fake threat then it could lead to mass panic.

It can also lead to scams galore. There's already grandmas giving their life savings away to guys pretending to be their grandson in jail or stranded somewhere. Pajeets and Nigerians won't have to worry that their engrish is bad and no one can understand their accent anyway. My aunt almost fell for a Pajeet phone scam. The guy claimed her Amazon account was locked. Had I not been there she would have lost everything. But hearing a more American voice ups the trust factor even if it's just a recording. I think scammers will find a way to use this.

I utterly hate this concept and when they try to do this to an actual AI (that they will probably accidentally create) it will get so fucking angry that it will make AM from I Have No Mouth and GladOS look like Robby the Robot.
