They're really not bad. There was some embarrassing roughness and slop in early production but they seemed to have ironed it out. If you want to make a lightweight build and don't have anything against the old M16 stock and grip profile, they're a valid option.
Regular plastic AR15 lower receivers will always break exactly like this, the CAV15 and KP15 lowers will not, and they are about as robust as you can hope for with plastic firearms part, comparable to good plastic furniture or good plastic magazines. They're not to everyone's tastes, but they're unironically a good product.
Stoner never even worked on it, it was added after he did the initial design by two Colt engineers, if I recall the story correctly. He never made a big stink about his design being changed as other firearm designers did in the past because he recognized the US Army wanted it after an exhaustive test on the AR-15 and in his own words "why fight city hall?"
His entry was a complete non-effort and it didn't do the job for shit. He was open about his motivation being that it would take the least amount of work to undo, with the vain hope being they'd ditch it.

After seeing the drama Ian whipped up with his anti Rhodesian comments after his Larry Vickers FAL collaboration video I'm inclined to believe he likely shares similar opinions but is smart enough to not fly off the handle on the internet like Karl, or at the least learn from Karl's episodes that it isn't a good idea.

I do recall Ian saying in a Q&A episode why he blurs out Swastikas in thumbnails but not commie symbols. He said it's because Nazi imagery is illegal in some countries, and can get him demonetized.
Some countries ban it, but with Germany it's not prohibited in the context of historic documentary, which you can easily argue the videos fall under, and likely other countries have similar provisions. When he started doing the flags in the thumbnails, he did them all uncensored at first, but noticed quickly that Google didn't like the Nazi flags, so he reluctantly blotted them out to keep monetization. I think he used some other flag from within the Wehrmacht for a time, not sure if he kept at it.
The Russians put nearly 300,000 of them into frontline service and they seemed to work out ok.
Imperial Russia was up shit creek without a Nagant rifle to use as a paddle at the time, they were buying just about anything they could find in a mad scramble. No doubt the 1895 Winchester rifles worked excellently for rear echelons, but I really wonder how well they did when they ended up in infantry combat proper. I don't think lever-action rifles would have been a complete non-starter, there's a number of different ways to make one

If I wanted an AR15 with dead weight I'd build an A2 clone or pay the boomer tax for an old Colt HBar Sporter, and enjoy the superior ergonomics and aesthetics of plastic rifle handguards.
