She may be a shitty friend; I think the evidence is overwhelming. But she didn't do Peetz dirty, he did her dirty. For 2 1/2 years, she has covered his share of the rent. That's about $26,250 she has shelled out on his behalf. On top of that, she has bought him all the takeout he can eat, so let's throw a very conservative $4000 on top of that. I'd estimate she is in the hole to the tune of $30K thanks to Peetz, which is almost enough to settle her bankruptcy. One could even make the argument that she is bankrupt because of Peetz.

Yet, through all those 2 1/2 years, she mostly stood up for him in public, or at least feigned pity for him. Yes, I guess it was uncool to promise to pay his rent for life and then duck out of it. But she has no money; Peetz took $30K of it. Circumstances are circumstances. It was his responsibility to not sponge off his "friend" in the first place, and to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong (especially since she is famous for not following through with anything)

A decent guy would have not taken such expensive advantage of his friend. After a month break for his mental health (scoff!), he should have taken the burden of his own upkeep off her and paid his way.

I think Peetz is the dick here, not Chantal. I have plenty of other reasons to hate the fat, festering fuck. But I'm not pinning this one on her.

I personally would not have been as patient as she has been, and I like to think I am better person than Chantal, although not the most tolerant in the world. If it was me, Peetz would have been in the streets a long time ago. Or way behind rent in his own apartment.

Peetz was content living his life with his roommate, working his ho-hum job as a call center supervisor (I think he was a supervisor, or maybe he worked a supervisor line and wasn't a Team Lead or anything like that, regardless, he wasn't in some entry-level position) and making enough to get by.

Then Chantal, who upped and left him years earlier to go live with Bibi (after sinking him into debt, mind you), comes back and begs him to essentially move back in with her, knowing she can't get an apartment on her own because her credit is shit. She promises him that she'll drive him to work every day and make him home cooked meals. So, he agrees to uproot his life (regardless how pathetic it was, at least he was independent then), move in with her, sign the lease to the Villa and ... everything she promised she reneged on. Fortunately for Chantal, COVID hit and Peetz was moved to WFH full-time, so, she lucked out there - didn't have to drive his ass to work every day. BUT the home cooked meals she promised? Didn't happen.

Of course, as time goes on, and Peetz is working later into the evenings, a time where Chantal is largely up and filming her videos, she finds it difficult to be quiet enough so he can handle his calls and she probably feels trapped in her own house since she can't be her normal loud self. It's at this point, preying on Peetz' depression, that she nudges him into quitting his job, knowing full well it'll kill his income.

So, he does.

I don't feel the least bit sorry for either. Peetz was stupid to ever trust Chantal and now is likely boned for it because he's not going to find a decent job - and as bad as a call center job can be, it's still a pretty stable, decent income for someone like him.

Do I feel bad for Peetz? No. But I'm not going to side with Chantal on this, either, because she was the one who kept initiating all these changes - whether it was asking him to move in with her or quit his job.

Peetz was just stupid enough to trust Chantal, especially when it came to quitting a job that he hated, but was semi-successful at seeing as he worked his way up to supervisor role.

Let's not forget she spent his money in the past as he gave her some to take the cats to the vet when she was still with Bibi, she put him in credit card debts when they were living together pre-Bibi, and we can suspect she is using his credit card as of now. She is also currently ruining his credit score if the Villa if it's left unpaid.

She thinks she'll be in Kuwait by the end of the month, and I have no doubt she told Mama and Rasta Auntie that she'd be in Kuwait by the end of the month, but something something best laid plans of pigs and speds.

The villa lease wasn't in her name. I don't know if she was on the paperwork as a resident, even. There's a good chance trashing the place will have no impact on her bankruptcy/credit in general, and she gives zero fucks about getting a rental reference out of it (and wouldn't, even if she didn't think she was going to be crashing at Mama's until she can jet back to her "lover"). There's an excellent chance this only really fucks Peetz over, so everyone feeling out-of-sorts because he's a slug should remember that she routinely destroys his credit and his health (mental and physical). I'm pretty sure they've both talked about it being a management company. Not Gunt's problem though because she isn't on the lease. The costs will all be charged to Peetz. Gunt doesn't care though, because she can't keep being friends with a male who isn't her husband, that would be haram. This has the potential to actually force Peetz into bankruptcy. Both Chantal and Peetz believe that at every tenant change the property needs to be repainted and recarpeted, just because their villa had that before they moved in. Peetz is in for a shock when he realises that there is a timeframe on that, and almost 3 years is nowhere near where properties are gutted and refurbished like that without the cost being charged to the outgoing tenant.

I can understand Peetz because he's known Chantal since high school and she's largely his only friend. There's no doubt Peetz takes from Chantal - but he also gave a lot, including even dating her back when they were working together. Both have said that Peetz was 100% against dating. He was not interested in Chantal but she was interested in having a boyfriend. At the time, they were roommates and that's how she convinced him to finally start dating. It was basically along the lines of, "we already live together and work together ... why not?" and he gave in after multiple attempts (stupidly, and then she ran him into debt and bailed to go live with Bibi). But from Peetz' POV, Chantal has always been the lone friend he can count on in the most basic sense of the word - even if she's emotionally trash toward him. But regardless, Peetz is a loser who can't drive and while he was able to live on his own, had very little responsibility beyond his comic book collection. Still, Chantal at least gave him a connection to the outside world, even before they moved in together and I feel Peetz has accepted Chantal is the only person in real-life who can tolerate him (whatever happened to that girl he was talking to from Tinder or whatever?) .

Nader and Salah both want something - Nader the fame and money Chantal brought and Salah a one-way ticket to Canada.

But Bibi didn't need Chantal. She maybe paid half the rent when she first moved in, prior to getting the pink slip from her company for being a lazy, entitled ass, but Chantal wasn't making a lot of money on YT when they lived together post-firing. All I can think is that he was so passive for so long that like someone who becomes overwhelmed with cockroaches or mice or whatever, he just resigned himself to the situation and learned to live with it.

They rent from a publicly traded REIT - 'Real Estate Investment Trust & it is customary if not law in Ontario, to list every occupant over 18 on the lease - gives you more people to go after if a place is trashed. I have several years experience, many moons ago, working in property management. She & Peetz are the"5% of tenants who cause 95% of your problems."

Once vacant, their trash will be dumped & flooring ripped out - no choice at this point & replaced by an inhouse team. Repairs will be done as quickly as possible & the place painted, then quickly rented.

Peetz & Chantal's names will be added to a list of tenants to avoid, a list that's shared among landlords in different locales. Landlords compete but tend not to screw each other over passing on bad tenants. As far as shit tenants go, they're about average. I've seen far worse.


Here is where I really wanted to go tonight. No arguing moves suck but the degree of suckage varies widely & hers just doesn't meet the criteria for the Super Pout Routine she's increasingly trying. No job change, no kids, no house to sell, no massive loads of stuff to pack & ship. She should be HAPPY - she's moving to live with her beloved HUSBAND in a country with strict external rules. I have no doubt she used her rent money to purchase it, knowing that she was going to leave the villa regardless as she's not allowed to live with Peetz anymore. If that's the case and she has that ticket, all she'd need would be a border run ticket (maybe back to Doha because she's familiar with that flight) to get her visa approved.
