Confirmation. It's one thing to self-diagnose yourself but he knows that if he simply says that he has something that he looked up in the DSM we're going to challenge it. After all this is a guy that supposedly spent time in an institution for trying to kill himself, twice, and speaks or at least spoke to a shrink at some point. I would think that they would have picked up on schizophrenia before that.
But unlike what Hollywood would like you to believe, schizophrenia is not being of two minds about something and true Dissociative Identity Disorder to the point of having more than one person inside their head is pretty rare and normally involves some heavy duty childhood trauma. A person with schizophrenia usually hears voices inside their head, has beliefs that are not backed up by any evidence such as the people you know have been replaced with robot duplicates and the FBI is currently listening to your thoughts using microwave emitters. A good example of this if you want a laugh is to read the ramblings of Francis E. Dec. Just google that and learn about the "Deadly gangster Frankenstein controls" and the "Worldwide Computer Communist Gangster God".
Same with DID. If a person had this they'd effectively blank out when the other personality took over and wouldn't remember what happened during that time. Literally you'd have a blank in your memory that you'd try to fit in like, "I must have fallen asleep" or something.
Holding two contradictory ideas in your head at the same time is called being human. Well in Pedobear's case, sub-human but it's something to strive for.
But he has an IQ or 124, possibly closer to 160, and he's the smartest person he knows. How can he not understand psychology with all of his smarty brains?

The exact opposite. If you're at high risk of reoffending because of mental illness, which he is, that's not justification to let you go, but to lock you up forever even after your sentence is over.

It's exactly for that reason that if you ever try to get out of a jail sentence by claiming mental illness you could wind up staying in an asylum for the rest of your life. And since Pedobear has a history of mental illness he could very well be sent away for life with the rest of the crazy people.
