I could not give less of a shit about Pluto being a planet and it is amazing to me (but understandable) so many people cared.

Now, this is long out of date, but I bring it up because I saw a video in my recommendations on it. I remember when the Pluto controversy started. Now, I like astronomy; as a child I knew my celestial bodies (including ones that are usually obscure to children, like Ceres and Eris), I had a planet and stars sticker display above my bed. As an adult I took Astronomy for my science elective. So this is not a case of me not caring about the subject matter.

What gets me is how worked up people who otherwise don't care about science would get over it, actual adults no less, and seem to take it like a crusade. I think what it is is that people have useless bullshit (like the names of the planets) drilled into them in school, and most of them go on to have at most a casual interest in the subject matter, but to them that useless bullshit becomes mighty important and like an article of faith. So then when someone wants to tweak it slightly, on completely sound reasoning, it feels like a personal attack on their own world and body of knowledge. What do you mean Pluto's not a planet?!?! I learned that in school! Even though there are tons of other celestial bodies out there, many of them ones Victorian schoolchildren had to learn (Victorians knew Ceres), and nevermind that none of it has any practical use to the 99.99999% of people who aren't rocket scientists planning where to send a probe.

I think more kids need to bully each other and conversely learn to deal with being bullied. Not for shit they can't control but if someone is being annoying and antisocial we should be encouraging children to self-regulate as a group instead of a no-tolerance policy. I think more people would get laid of they'd relax and stop listening to old people who are single. People who are over 35 and who have never settled down used to be considered losers and mild outcasts but it feels like we've been duped collectively to look to them for relationship advice instead of ignoring them.
Building up from the prior point, I believe failure is honestly useless as a teaching tool. People don't grow from making mistakes. Mistakes will just hurt you over time. They grow from solving problems and fine tuning your intuition. Sure, solving problems is hard and necessitates the possibility of making a mistake, but languishing in anxiety while refusing to make a move or letting other people direct your trajectory will stunt you.
