As for Archie's texts, it is a case of Hollie come first, and sod everyone else. She knows what those messages are.
The police though should not have to "ask for permission" when investigating though. And the PIN shit, didn't Hollie know her own son's pin? And it had to be investigated in airplane mode due to privacy. No offense to you guys in the UK, but it shows why cases don't get solved in the UK easily.

Archie sent messages to mum saying he was 'depressed' and wanted to 'give up'

We are now hearing evidence that was recovered from Archie’s phone, including WhatsApp groupchats he was part of. DS Gore revealed that of the many groupchats he was part of, it included one which was called “I’m depressed”. The officer said that they could not be certain if Archie had started these groups himself or if he had been added to them by someone else.

DS Gore has also gone through various message exchanges between him and his mother in the months before he was hospitalised. This included messages from Archie where he said he was “so depressed at the moment” and another where he referenced wanting to “give up on everything”.

Evidence that Archie had been in a low mood but not in the period leading up to the incident, police say

Jonathan Dingle, representing the family, asked DS Gore whether she believed that Archie was a “happy boy enjoying his hobbies”.

DS Gore said: “There was evidence that he had been in low mood but certainly in the days leading up to the tragic incident Archie was very much looking forward; he was buying things and there was no evidence that he was in low mood that day.”

This is important info from the paramedic - PEA is a non shockable rhythm so nothing the medics do from then can 'bring him back'.
Archie had no chance of revival at this point according to this evidence.
Sorry to be an autist, but although you are right that PEA is non-shockable (along with asystole), it doesn't mean there is 'nothing' you can do - this is precisely what CPR is for.
You keep blood moving with the hope you can figure out what has caused the cardiac arrest in the first place, and reverse it. The aim is to get to a shockable rhythm and/or ROSC (return of spontaneous circulation).

He clearly had ROSC because his heart was still beating for another 4 months.

edit: a typo

If they were investigating a crime in which Archie was involved then the police wouldn't necessarily require permission to examine his devices. In this case I believe that they needed parental (or court) permission as Archie wasn't able to give permission and wasn't (legally) dead.

Why HoLi was more concerned about Archie's privacy than finding out why he necked himself is another matter - she never seemed to give a fuck about his dignity or privacy when he was laying in the PICU bed.

I'd say the last thing ya posted shows why she refused when she was messaged this by him.
"This included messages from Archie where he said he was “so depressed at the moment” and another where he referenced wanting to “give up on everything”."

Kinda ruins her tiktok story for the police to find that. She purposely hindered their investigation.

Yes, I agree completely - whether the police will try to take that any further remains to be seen. If other reports are accurate, they may not bother if they think that they've got her for CrashGate as that's a much more serious offence.

Police give evidence on their investigation after the incident

We’re now hearing evidence from Detective Inspector Sarah Weeks, who is giving a more broad overview of the full police investigation.

She has run through what happened at the scene with evidence being collected and photographs being taken. She has emphasised that there was no suicide note found anywhere at the property.

DI Weeks has also been discussing Archie’s time at school over previous years, including times before he was removed from mainstream education and his return a few years later.

Police investigation concluded there were no child safety concerns

DI Weeks said that it was “abundantly clear” that Archie was “looking forward” on the day of the incident and that he was “playing with his pet rabbit and pranking his mum”.

DI Weeks said there were no ongoing child safety concerns, with a consistent story told by his family throughout the process, with no unexplained injuries.

DI Weeks has now completed her evidence, and expressed her condolences to the family of Archie.

Coroner retires to consider his conclusions

Coroner Lincoln Brookes has now heard all the evidence in the inquest for Archie Battersbee's death. He has retired to consider his thoughts and is due back in court in approximately 15 minutes.

No apology necessary fren. I was trying to keep things very simple for those who don't know ALS, and in doing so, left out the most important basic information that CPR must be continued throughout.
Tism is needed and appreciated to correct such egregious brain farts. Thank you.

ROSC after PEA is so vanishingly rare it's practically miraculous, particularly out of hospital. Resuscitation of someone who has had a PEA arrest is statistically not going to have a good outcome, even if you manage to eliminate the primary problem.
But Archie did have ROSC, somehow.
Let's be fair though, Archie's heart only continued to beat for for 4 months because of the constant infusion of large doses of pressors.

Coroner begins his conclusion

Coroner Brookes has returned and is now summing up the case and his conclusions.

Archie had expressed he was low but like many children went through high and low periods

The coroner has said that it was clear Archie was “full of energy” and energetic. He said: “He was very physical, he was at times very bored. He liked to shock those around him, perhaps even more so those he cared about.”

The coroner said that it was evident Archie had expressed to his mother that he was “very low” and “questioned if it was all worth it” - but said that it was “like many 12-year-olds” who go through “lows and highs”.

He added that he must focus on Archie’s mental state on the day of his discovery and be cautious about giving too much weight to previous expressions of low mood.

Archie's parents were put in a situation 'no parents ever want to be in'

The coroner is summarising the events of April 7 when Archie was discovered unresponsive.

He said he was satisfied that the paramedics arrived in a timely manner, but that Archie had already suffered the severe hypoxic-ischaemic brain injury and was in cardiac arrest.

Coroner Brookes said he was satisfied that taking Archie to Southend Hospital was the right decision as the care in the first few hours of arriving at the Royal London Hospital “would have been the same as it was in Southend”.

He added that the following days and months Archie’s parents were put in a situation “no parents ever want to be in”.

Archie died due to an accident and 'didn't intend to take his own life'

The coroner has stated he does not believe Archie intended to take his own life on April 7.

He said the “happy go lucky” and “cheeky chappy” that his mother Hollie Dance portrayed him as “was the Archie presented on April 7”.

The coroner said: “He had plans later that day and big plans for his first MMA fight and it was a very big deal for him and he was looking forward to and training for. Am I satisfied on the balance of probabilities that he intended [to take is own life] - the answer is no.”

“It’s my view that this was an accident”.

He stated the time it took for his mother to find him led to the brain injury being caused.

No evidence Archie was taking part in an 'online challenge'

The coroner has said that while the notion that Archie was taking part in an online challenge was “not impossible” there was no evidence to suggest it was the case, and that there are “hundreds of other possibilities” which also have no evidence to substantiate them.

Archie 'had not intended to harm himself but had done so inadvertently' coroner concludes

In his record of inquest, Coroner Brookes stated that Archie Battersbee died on August 6, 2022 following an incident at his home address on April 7.

He said: “He had not intended to harm himself but had done so inadvertently during a prank or experiment that went wrong.”

He recorded a short-form final conclusion of “accident” as the cause of death.

Coroner sends condolences to family

The coroner told Archie's parents that his death would "clearly leave a huge hole" in people's lives. He said: "You have given me an insight into this young man, what he had achieved and what he looked like he would achieve. You are quite right to be proud of this young man."

Archie's family to give statement outside the courtroom

Archie's family have said they will give a statement on the inquest's findings outside the courtroom.

Live broadcast on https://www.facebook.com/essexlivenews
Should be able to grab an archivable copy later from https://www.essexlive.news/

They're so sensitive to kids killing themselves that, without a suicide note or other compelling evidence such as a witness, the coroner was never going to rule it as a suicide

@False Witness

Thanks for posting information.

My mind automatically links to the skank not wanting the police to see her messages to the feral thug, rather than concern about anything between him and anyone else.

Her every action from the moment he springvaulted into the noose belies any moral standpoint/normal parental concern she had on his privacy and/or personal dignity.

Interesting points for me were the headmaster saying no indication/out of character. Sounds a bit like arse-covering in that had the school had a suicidal thug under their care and admitted failing to notice or ignoring it, the skank would be crayoning writs as I type. Also, the skank's attempt at laying blame at the door of the ambulance service for not driving for an hour (so that he would be an hour more dead). Again, I'm reading this as an attempt at compo. The fact the feral thug's father found out, almost by accident, about his death is possibly one of the more shocking elements of this, and is something the skank should never, ever be allowed to forget. Ever.

I do, though, get a bit sad every time I see videos of him, he looks so desperately unco-ordinated, which would tie in with him being told he'd never make a gymnast. Trying to recall the 'gold medal', was it for attendance or similar? My memory may be playing tricks on that?

I'm thinking her volte-face at the inquest on just about everything is an attempt to present herself as a grieving mother/ victim whose previous abuse of NHS staff, and outright lies about the circumstances of his death, were merely grief reactions, to the next court case she faces, from which I hope a LOT of jail time for her is the outcome.

Are we taking bets who left the voicenotes about him having been an intended abortion?

Whew!! I just really needed to get that all out of my head!

I think those quotes are from his primary school teacher. I think he was in secondary school (year 7), so not sure why his primary school teacher was asked to give evidence as he wouldn't have seen him for several months.

I think it could have been a kind of an accident, in a sense. Back when all this shit was going down, someone theorized that Archie and his mother had a big argument right before, and Archie wanted to do something to scare her into appreciating him. He didn't think about the consequences of looking like he was trying to kill himself or the possibility of death.

I think that kind of story might line up with what we've seen. Unpredictable kid, doesn't think things through, makes a rash decision for attention at a low point, ends own life in a psudeo-accident/suicide.

Of course I could be completely wrong, but this is just my theory.

@Mauve Olive
Ah! I missed that. Thanks.

@PoisonedBun
Sort of makes sense, in that he possibly believed she'd drag herself away from her very important (only fans?) call in time to see him still alive.

At least, after today, TikTok and the NHS are not going to fund the skank's life going forward. However, we can retain hope she will be accommodated by HMPS (i.e. the taxpayer) for a long time. Money well spent, I say.

At the very least the inquest has shown the whole world what a horrible mother Hollie was. It was not going to be ruled suicide because children rarely are since they lack the executive function to fully understand the repercussions of their actions. They also are quite impulsive it is very rare to have a child actually knowingly and fully choose to commit suicide in a fully cognitive way.

She can't help herself can she? She is still questioning the treatment that was confirmed as being correct.

Personally, if that's an option, I would have preferred that they ruled the cause of death as undetermined. While I agree with the general assessment from others that it may have not been done on purpose I don't know if accident is the appropriate term.

Skank.

I do wish that there had been more reported from the inquest - Hollie's comment to reporters suggest there was quite a bit more said than was reported (understandable given reporting standards and guidelines). It would be very interesting if we could have had one of our own sit in to report the gaps but I think the local Southenders who flooded this thread back in August have all skulked back to Facebook and Mumsnet by now.
