Sega - It's more than just Sonic Autism

Sega of America launches new California office

"The opening of the new Sega of America headquarters in Irvine represents a new era for one of the gaming world's most esteemed brands," said Sega global CEO, Shuji Utsumi. Utsumi added, "This new space helps to foster a genial and team-oriented culture to reinforce that purpose and create new stories and worlds that will entertain gamers for generations."

God-fucking-damn it. I was hoping they'd move to somewhere less-pozzed.....*sigh*

‘ToeJam & Earl’ Movie in the Works from Amazon, Stephen Curry

'Hotel Transylvania 4' writers Amos Vernon and Nunzio Randazzo are writing the project, which hails from Story Kitchen.
“Earth, their legends tell them, is the Paradise where the music that created their culture originated. Unfortunately for our heroes, not only do they wreck their ship, but they find that Earth is . . . well, not the haven they expected. But the music – that part was true. So begins their quest to find as much of that music as they can in the hope of saving their planet, and maybe ours as well.”

Fuck everything. *sigh*

This is going to suck just from the music alone. There's a HUGE difference between the music in TJ&E and current year music that's played today.

TJ&E had more of a jazzy thing going. The instruments, especially on the genesis sound chip, were perfectly chosen and compliment each other to give it that funky sound that stays in your head for hours because it's so goddam catchy. Panic On Funkotron took that to 11 and cranked out even more godly tunes. They were more energetic, and even the quiet ones had some good drum work going for it. Each song had different melody changes. It's like the music artists got all of this down to a science because it's perfectly executed.

Current year hip-hop and rap is just some nigger half-assing the lyrics while the same loop they took from [insert random music making program here] plays in the background for-fucking-ever.

It always warms my heart whenever SEGA officially references Skies of Arcadia, however miniscule it might be. ❤

The soul of Sega really died a few years after the Dreamcast imo, the original Xbox and GameCube kept it going for a while longer, but at some point though Sega has published some noteworthy third party games their internal output got really bland.

The one exception being Yakuza/Like A Dragon, which has kept the old spirit of Sega alive, so it's not gone entirely.

Double post, but a new Samba de Amigo was just announced at the latest Nintendo Direct:

The Etrian Odyssey HD games are on Steam and are 40$ each, or 80$ for the whole collection.
I wonder if SEGA is having a moment or if somebody at Atlus should get the shit slapped out of them.
