I'd like to hope that no doctor would think giving her an Adderall script was a good idea, but one may well have done so if Luna fed him the right line of bullshit and it worked. Also possible they cooked up a fake prescription. I doubt she'd feel any effect whatsoever from any therapeutic dose because of so many benzos in her system all the time, but Adderall has a very high street value (I've seen up to $30 for a 20 mg pill which is insane) so it's worth her effort just for selling/trading. Also possible Luna decided she wants some because she's retarded and thinks it functions as a magical weight loss pill.

Either way, how likely is it really that every pharmacy Luna goes to really don't fill Adderall?? If two of the world's sketchiest, filthiest junkies came in and started inquiring about their Adderall inventory, who's gonna tell them? I had quietapine in 25 MG dose for severe nightmares. 100 MG is more than just for sleep. 300 MG is for antipsychotics. She's somewhere in between.

This is not a power level. This is a common second step with people who have insomnia/poor sleep quality. The first step is melatonin. (Melatonin won't help nightmares, in fairness, other than maybe making it slightly easier to fall back asleep.)

It's not 1998. Back then you could roll up to your GP, cry about sleeplessness and pain, and you'd leave with a month's worth of Ambien, maybe some Valium, and a nice referral to a pain clinic that would give you a cool 180 oxycodones.

Now we're "civilized" because we dope people out of their feelings, but the drugs make people feel bad instead of good, so it's noble. (Take your medicine. Not an attack on you. I'm sure missing a few good dreams is worth the end of chronic nightmares.) I just hate to see people with addictions get dumped on antipsychotics. Addicts are sometimes mentally ill, but addiction isn't a mental illness. Stopping someone's brain because you find their thoughts unpalatable and not explaining this so they understand why they're getting it and what it does is pretty fantastically cruel.

I feel I missed out on Luna back when she had potential to be a better version of herself. Now she's truly descended into being "used up." She should get on a train going out of town and just start over without Lurch, without the enabling dad, and just get a job as a cashier or waitress and grind it out just to prove to herself she could. Luna still has it in her to be a chain restaurant manager if she starts working on herself now. It's an honest living. Just earning her own way respectably would do wonders for her self-esteem.

it is not completely ridiculous to prescribe Luna seroquel, it is actually a very common practice for bpd hoes. It does seem to stabilize mood, and tuna does need it. Bpd thought patterns when it comes to interpersonal relationships or self identity does seem to be psychotic like, since they react explosively for no real causes or reasons at all from a rational perspective. Many with bpd also does develop a psychotic break here and there when shit gets super stressful. Don’t think she got it purely because of the addiction, it’s most likely just through the merit of bpd. although seroquel is fairly new, atypical antipsychotics have been around for a while, and i wouldn’t be surprised they have been doping bpd bitches with them since their conception. And they have now understood bpd and benzo can‘t mix, not only because the hoes get addicted easily, but benzo would actually worsen the symptoms. It would also be counterproductive to give any addict anything slightly fun they can abuse or trade for other drugs.

Addiction itself is usually a manifestation of dealing with some sort of severe mental illness or trauma (imho). The big book with all the names of mental illnesses list substance abuse as a separate diagnosis, and many psychiatrists hold firmly that they cannot diagnose anyone with anything else before the substance abuse get under control since withdrawal/drug induced behaviours can interfere with judgement. many psychiatrists do not hold this opinion, and especially when it comes to bpd: the comorbidity of bpd and substance abuse is so high that it would be ridiculous to turn away any bpd with addiction, coz you‘ll probably end up with none. And if the issue that is causing people to turn to illicit drugs is not fixed, it would be almost impossible to get someone who’s so heavily addicted to drugs to actually stop. Many addicts have severe mental health conditions like schizophrenia and personality disorder, it wouldn’t be out of the line to give them some seroquel hoping it would help.

The merits and efficacy of antipsychotics is another story. there is actually not much evidence that they can help with schizophrenia, and the newer generations (including seroquel) are no more effective than the earliest batch, they just cause less SERIOUS SERIOUS side effects. Long term use also seems to shrink one’s brain, literally. But what they do is keep the severely mentally ill out of asylums and keep them semi-ok to be dealt with at home or in the community. This was seen as a huge win at the time when they first came out with it, and kicked off the pharma side of psychiatry that gave us anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, and basically the take a pill to stop the crazy model of treatment. antipsychotics are not bad per se, and there is a good reason to like them. You see people who swear by them saying the drug totally turned their lives around, and many would also say they helped somewhat. One might not fully recover from their illness, develop metabolic issues, feel like a zombie all the time etc but it does prevent many from having to go inpatient or suffer more severe consequences. on the other hand, there is a big issue with how psychiatry understands and treats schizophrenia and personality disorders, and it seems targeted intense therapy might be more effective than pills.

What you said is still valid though. many medication get a bad name because hoes abuse them, and people who actually need those are suffering the consequences. I somehow have a different personal experience, while it is literally impossible to get prescribed Xanax outside a psyc ward in Canada, there are still crook doctors in the states that would give you 180 2mg clonazepam if you asked. However, no one except a drug dealer should have that many chonazepam, imho.
