Should the individual authors who defended Kramer apologize now that it's clear he's guilty? Sure. But it's not entirely unreasonable that people would defend someone when it looked a great deal for quite some time like he was an innocent man being railroaded by the legal system.

SFWA has gone downhill, especially since they started letting self-published authors in, and if they financed Patrick's lawsuit with their members' knowledge, that's an actual scandal. But the other stuff doesn't have anything to do with Patrick, and quite honestly most of it doesn't have anything to do with to SFWA.

Walter Breen was publically known for molesting kids and pedo advocacy in the science fiction fandom from which SFWA stems from. Look up "Breendongle", a sizable minority believed he was being unfairly persecuted for his sexual attractions and it was a huge debate in the 60s. Pro-pedo advocacy was big in science fiction back in the 50s-70s since it was assumed to be just another sort of sexuality. Like check out Isaac Asimov's son for another instance of this.
