I wish we could make this the site banner. It's beautiful, horrific.
Do you think Tony now blames said trans man for failing? I don't think so since his hatred of Florida wronging him is greater, but it would be hilarious.
So, do you want to be a cute young man named Ash or do you want to be an awkward socially anxious girl stuck in puberty hell with her emotions magnified 200% and her body changing uncomfortably and for the worse in her eyes? Do you want to be an innocent boy or nonbinary fairy who has an air of mystery about them who sounds like a cool badass like Ash Williams or a cute guy you read about in fanfic, or do you want to be Olivia the girl who's just the same as the 2 other Olivias in her class but more autistic leaning and prone to melting down more because of underlying mental issues that are hard to confront and get her bullied anyway?
Alright, now do you want to be a guy in your 20s who plays MtG and gets no pussy and still has to go through the trials of college (or just NEET life), or do you want to be Hippolyta, a literal mythical figure of beauty who's queen of the badass warrior women who are also bi/lesbians? Add in the Wonder Woman reference for superhero fans too of course.
I'm trying to say the choice of names is about starting over but rerolling the dice to get a better default character build. It doesn't work but it is a name they want to live by, their first impression to other people when read or talked about, their IRL username, their all encompassing essence of them. Some troons bounce on names due to not having a stable identity, others bounce when their chosen name is soiled by something or someone, like a bad person sharing their name or having that name at a bad point of coming out. The idea is shedding one identity and becoming anew, choosing names you wish you were or would name your baby after.
Think about what you'd change your name to if given the chance. Would you just call yourself a fit in name and keep your original name in your heart or would you embrace it and go with an exotic or melodic name? Or would you just call yourself Blaze Motorhead because it sounds cool? Names are a big part of our identity whether we realize it or not, and a name change or nickname means something different (most people call you Taylor, your friends call you Tay, your family calls you Taybae, your spouse calls you darling, all different but shows your relationship with them). So being able to reset your name usually means choosing someone new to roleplay as for trans people. Imagine if you could force people to stop calling you "Kevin" or "Gaylord" by pulling the trans card.
It's different: HE is trans, therefore an instant expert and his coochie says so!
