kind of like Nintendo did with the Mario games on GBA (well, they only added new stages and collectibles, but still).
It's a shame those versions don't get as much attention as the originals, IMO they're the better versions, especially the 4th game (SMB3). That e-Reader gimmic was dumb, but thankfully the Virtual Console version exists that has them all in by default.

The only thing holding them back is the screen crunch, they're definitely still good though.

Probably a new playable character or two. If we're lucky, a new game with missions to go along with it.
Makes sense. I suppose they could've negotiated for the mobile ports or an upgraded S3&K? Give me all the rainbows, I deserve them, I just actually can't figure out what they could do. Origins wasn't great but it did its job for this generation.

From what I can tell, people were mostly displeased with the amount of content we got for the price (plus the bugs that were present and so on). Aside from that, it's not the worst collection ever and can only benefit from a mania plus-like upgrade.

What if Sonic the Hedgehog met The Joker?
Or what if he became The Joker?

Then it would say a lot about society.

I had a really strange dream that I was trying to find a ROM of a classic-style 2D Sonic game that I was remembering as essentially the best game in the entire series. But no matter what I searched I couldn't find it. I thought I had just forgot the specific title of the game but no matter what I searched for and browsed through ROM sites and archives, I couldn't find it. Bizarrely it was released on the GBA and 3DS but not the DS? In my dream memory, it seemed to be a bit more challenging than the typical Sonic game and had a bigger focus on precision platforming segments. I recall that in later stages the difficulty ramped up substantially. And incorporated "ring droughts" where you had long sections of level where you had to have quick reflexes to avoid taking damage from enemies and hazards without any rings to be found. I don't remember even making it to the end stages of the game because of the difficulty spikes.

Sonic Origins Plus Has Been Rated In Korea

If this is in line with Mega Collection Plus, what games do you think will be on it? The Game Gear/Master System games? Sonic R? CHAOTIX (:optimistic:)?
How about they fix the main games first? It’s sad how much better the fan remakes are when this was supposed to replace them. Fix the bugs, make the extras accessible through a normal menu, add Knuckles to CD, and fix the drop dash. And I understand that the Jackson music can’t come back, but at least make the replacements not suck. Or just copy them directly from the prototype, that works too.

I don’t think it would be too :optimistic: to speculate that they’ll pull a Mania and release a free update alongside paid DLC.

I wonder if Sega will ever try another on foot racing game like Sonic R. Really seems like it should be able to work for this series.
The problem is that the characters would have to be re-balanced if you want any sort of "fair" gameplay, especialy against other people and/or the CPU. On hard difficulty, Sonic, and ESPECIALLY Super Sonic fucking outruns the rest of the cast easily, even if you use the shortcuts, they will quickly gain up and even surpass you. This was also a problem even in the Sonic Drift games because Sonic (and to an extent Metal Sonic) ALWAYS outran you, and trying to catch up was damn near impossible since the CPU seemed to just have speed powerups on infinite.

R's other problem was that the tracks themselves felt too short. With the shortcuts, you could clear a loop in like 10 seconds, so you don't really get to take in and enjoy the race itself like you can in something like Mario Kart, or hell, Drift 2. Hunting for the Chaos Emeralds was the only way you could extend your time on those tracks, but even then, once you knew where they were and saved your rings till the right time to open those special doors, it's a minor detour in a fast lane.

Sonic R was a mess, but I'm wondering if there's a way to balance the idea better. Maybe something similar to Sonic 3 where while Sonic is faster, he has to take the longer paths while Tails and Knuckles can take certain shortcuts to help make up the difference. Or make the raw speed differences not as drastic, and focus more on their abilities.

Although now that there's so many characters, you could even separate them based on type. Have a speed character bracket (Sonic, Shadow, Metal, Blaze, etc..) where they all have a similar ability and race on stages build around that. Then have some other categories like gliders (Knuckles, Omega, Silver), Flyers (Tails, Cream, Rouge) for example. Get the rest of the expanded cast and put them in there somewhere. Then have special stages where you can choose whoever you want and there's multiple paths and obstacles that each type of character has to approach differently.

Bugfixes.

It remains baffling to me that remakes of the classic games are local-only multiplayer, but it's wishful thinking to hope for [edit:] online multiplayer at this point in time. Maybe all the people who whinged about Amy not being playable will finally get what they wanted. Multiple playable characters seems to be on SEGA's agenda for Sonic into the future, after all.
i swear theres something off about sonic origins and i think it's the analog sticks. i usually play sonic with the sticks because it still feels good, fuck you, but i had to switch to the d-pad for the collection as well as before doing a spin dash making sure not to touch forward or else it fucks up my momentum and halts it slightly. doing the cheats in sonic 1&2 to restore the instashield makes it slightly better but it's still not perfect. unironically the best feeling game in the collection might be cd, which feels exactly like it did back in 2011 and is very close to mania. so i'd love some bugfixes as otherwise it's the definitive way to play those games imo

i'd like a generally polishing patch for sonic 3k's remaster, adding more stuff to it akin to the other games. they broke knuckles' zone transitions and didnt put his intro cutscene in angel island, for example. they also added more scripting that took away control which i think should be undone. also fixing the music to either be from a more recent prototype or just releasing a DLC to pay for the royalties to get back the old music would be good

i would love mighty and ray (and knuckles in cd) to be playable. heck i'd also love it if each character could be played in that cool story mode feature and had their own cutscenes. i also wouldnt mind returning the menu style of sonic 1,2,cd back to the old ways and giving us multiple save files for those again
-
new games and stages? yea thatd be cool. it'd be kinda interesting if they did some sort of mode that sort of combines different levels from all the games into a new campaign, like an encore mode 2. like that fake leak suggested. if i were to pick new games i'd go for sonic chaos, triple trouble, master system sonic 1&2, tails adventure, dr robotnik's mean bean machine, sonic advance 1-3, sonic rush, rush adventure & colors for DS as well as pocket adventure

also question for you guys which menu aesthetic do you prefer? mega collection for gamecube or mega collection plus?

Some autist beat you to this via Youtube fanfiction in 2020, apparently as some April Fools joke in his series of other Youtube fanfictions.
