Grace Lavery / Joseph Lavery & Daniel M. Lavery / Mallory Ortberg - "Straight with extra steps" couple trooning out to avoid "dwindling into mere heterosexuality"

Joe notes the difference from the book, I think it's fair that most of the comments don't even realize there's a book, but he kinda skips over that like most adaptions they condensed characters and plot and gave good lines from others to the top actors and so on. The book also kinda undermines Joe's theory: Bill starts killing at 12 with his grandparents and kills his ex-boyfriends new boyfriend or something. How much weight should we give the movie cutting his background info for time?

There's also the question of how much weight we should give the claims of a serial killer who are almost always notorious liars.

I remember the book's sections on transsexualism are basically word for word taken from interviews Harris did with Johns Hopkins doctors specializing in that treatment. The book doesn't give Hannibal the last word because they follow up with all the doctors he attempted to contact, and they explain in great detail why he doesn't fit the criteria for transition. But even if the movie went into all that, that gatekeeping is precisely what modern TRAs think is completely transphobic. They don't think you should have to present as female before transitioning, or that you have to have dysphoria, or that you have to be a normal person who's more or less on your rocker. Let us transition or we'll kill girls and wear their skin is Joe's version of let us transition or we'll kill ourselves. Disgusting, mate!

But it will get grosser.

The last comment there is from an insane troon.

Joe can also officially go back on Twitter. Mallory and Lily beg him not to.

speaking of movies, in the movie "Falling Down"--Michael Douglas stomps over the golf course yelling FAMILIES SHOULD BE HAVING PICNICS HERE!-- which made him a sympathetic character even if he is shooting people.

I think its perfect that the libs no longer care about poor children or family picnics... or even pretend to.

Now its "give us the golf courses for public sex!"

More movies: maybe poor kids can look over the expensive golf course/public sex park fence and beg the rich for scraps, like in "Suddenly Last Summer".

Joe in his Balenciaga will feel right at home.

Joe writes a poem.

It's true that the movies are moral fables about the virtuous poor! But, if anything, I think the movies are pushing against the idea that a detective can singlehandedly fix everything by revealing the truth. There's a third act or third storyline happening in tandem with the whodunnit that lets the poor characters or those who have been wrongly accused hash out the resolution themselves and exercise their own agency that probably resonates well in a postmodern landscape where the institutions of power are not trusted to carry out justice.

I just think it's assuming facts not in evidence to think that RJ only cares about "subverting expectations" because of the TLJ discourse, as if he didn't just try to give Luke Skywalker a human reason for fucking off after J.J. Abrams set it up so that he fucked off to begin with. Pretty sure challenging a character's choices is just storytelling, not subversion for its own sake. But even if you believe that's all RJ does, I don't know where he's getting the idea that the murder mysteries think they're subverting expectations or think they are better than the genre. Rian is not out here slamming how predictable murder mysteries are, his interviews mostly just talk about little visual cues he likes to do.

"johnson's subversion makes all the rich people bad *in the same way.* whereas the genre's classic form presumes that class interests present in complex forms..."

translation:

"SOME rich people buy a lot of Balenciaga and take too many plane rides as they criss-cross the country to commute to their job as a Victorian studies professor who is withholding their work from their employer! We are NOT all the same!"

Joe writes something about Jimmy Savile, child rapist.

His description of Glass Onion is the opposite of what (I'm pretty sure) Johnson was going for. 100% Joe just wants to fuck Karina and this is how people with his personality problem react when there's a woman they can't have. Karina, despite some of her weird virtue signalling, actually IS what Mallory tries to be/was trying to be pre-transition. Quirky, old-hollywood-obsessed, vintage-dress-wearing, nerdy media analyst guru girlfriend.

Edit - As you can probably tell, I also want to fuck Karina. But she is married, and straight. However, you'll notice that instead of threatening to murder her husband, I merely simp for her on an autistic message board for the confusing segment of society that contains a mix of Trump voters and old lesbians.

I think it's dandy that Joe's alleged long covid has erased the memory of the past few years or something. All the grotesque acting up on Twitter say, before he was banned. What a convenient amnesia. Does anyone believe this shit? I feel like "long Covid, I can't remember anything" is a pre-emptive excuse for something bad for Joe coming down the pike. And he knows it's coming.

"Long Covid, I'm a tranny, I barely know that girl, I'm a tranny with amnesia, I invoke all my special trans rights, I throw myself on the mercy of the Court your Lordship Honour. Where am I? I don't even know."

This is still the thread for Gretchen dirt, right?
