So Heinlein was not advocating for service-for-citizenship? Was it just a thought experiment?
Well, when the book goes into detail about it, it sure didn't come off as idyllic as a lot of people think it sounds. When the system has to invent idiot-proof do-nothing jobs because the dolts deserve to earn their citizenship and vote, too? Well, it isn't much better than where we actually are, in my opinion. So, I tend to think it was more about human nature always biting us in the ass, and there is no perfect system, because there will always be dolts and useless people. But it has been some years since I read it, and also, @Back me up! is 100% unironically correct.

I just got done with Orwell's Road to Wigan Pier so maybe I'll put Starship Troopers next in my queue.
You should. Just remember it was written as a way to get young men (around 12 to 15) to think about what it means to be a US citizen/governing (by suckering them in with a sci fi war story) so forgive some of the simplistic pose/word choices. I would go more into what @JustSomeDong is talking about but that would ruin the chance for you to figure it out on your own.

I have actually given some thought to the whole "service guarantees citizenship" thing and tried to imagine actually making it work. I came across a number of issues and possible solutions to said issues and overall it is a decent idea that might work with some thought. Sure is better than some other attempts at government.

Starship troopers is just another system that came about as a response due to the times and needs of the people that created the system in the first place.

So since you've actually read the book, what's your opinion of this video?

This guy is a different type of obnoxious, I checked out his stuff years ago and he started to seem to try to get into the breadtube circle. Not sure if he ever made it.
He's certainly a longwinded "more words make me look smart" presenter and uses his status as an army vet as a free pass to talk about military affairs as a whole.

I may let this run later this evening out of curiosity but I expect he's not changed much for the better.

my opinion of the video is anyone who talks for a whole hour online and expects anyone who's not autistic to watch is a faggot

Anyway, the title of the video was answered by the 1960s, when veterans literally ruled the world. TBH, it was mostly pretty good except for how they didn't foresee just how much taking their boots of the necks of niggers and homosexuals would ruin everything.
