Spoken like a true individual that is likely not a parent. There is a common theme as well that it’s always the parents fault.
It is not your fault your child commit suicide, not at all, but it is the parents fault for not monitoring their child's browsing habits on the Internet lol. Websites and games (unless their target audience is children) are not babysitters and are under no moral obligation to monitor children using their platform.
Do you think it’s a good idea having a website who’s goal is to discuss suicide and it’s methods in high detail for the sole purpose of exiting this world?
So a termite drops out of the wall and you think the problem is that one termite? Instead of questioning why this website exists, maybe you should question why your teen wants to browse this website in the first place. Maybe you should check in on your child's mental health? Your virtue is severely misplaced.
I find it disturbing that you imply you're a parent, because you don't seem to know the first thing about paying attention to your kids.
Without zero regard to the age or vulnerability of the individuals consuming it?
There is no real way to monitor and control the age of your user traffic, it just isn't technologically feasible. The most a website can do to confirm someone's age is require photo ID, but this is not foolproof.
1. Anyone can just snag their parents ID. A good example of this is ROBLOX's voice chat feature. In order to use VOIP on ROBLOX users are required to provide photo ID, as it's intended for adults. Yet when you go on games with VOIP enabled, a lot of people talking are minors.
2. Most people aren't going to trust uploading their photo ID online unless it's to a clearly reputable and popular platform.
You are an adult and you talk to children online about suicide and provide instructions on how to do it “peacefully”. Think about that for a few minutes. Not to far off from a predator now are you? You should feel real proud.
It seems you wish the website didn't exist, so you're advocating for censorship - which is oppression. Bold move.
In order for that to work there would have to be some sort of system in place. So, how would this censorship system run exactly? Would you have an ideological purity test before people say things? Who are you going to pick to decide what things you can and cannot say? Pick someone to have complete dominion over your speech. Do it.
And before you say "I don't have to pick anyone or create the system" yes, you do. If this is how you want society to run, you have to have a system to run it. You can't just say "this is not okay to say" by fiat and just assume that everyone will agree with you for all time. There are other people in the world besides you. You have to pick principles that can be applied to everyone.
The funny thing is people who advocate for shit like this are perfectly happy with censorship/oppression as long as it's being applied to things they disagree with, but you know the instant it comes back around to bite them they would cry about it. Which, if you weren't getting my point, is exactly why a system of this nature does not exist and why censorship is bullshit. Don't advocate for censorship, advocate for staying in tune to your child's mental and physical health instead.
