I think their tactics have evolved from trying to get the general population to support their boycott to enforcing their will on the communities where their cult still has power. Which mostly seems to me to be trying to get female streamers to cry on stream or bully them until they give up playing Hogwart's Legacy. (I'm sure there are other places where it's happening that I'm not privy to it because it isn't as public.) So while this boycott has shown how irrelevant their cult is to normal people, they are still going to hurt a lot of people as much as they can. I see a lot of people writing comments on places like Twitter where they say, "Bullying this streamer until she cries on stream is not going to get people on your side, it's just hurting your cause." I don't think that's what this is about, I think it's about "we own this community and you will obey us."

Unfortunately, while it might get a few people who follow Twitch streamers to figure out that this is a cult of mentally ill people, I don't think the majority of normal people are even going to notice. I think they actually picked Hogwart's Legacy as the thing to go after because they believed that they owned gaming itself due to the amount of catering to their cult by game companies. A lot of game remakes have removed any content joking about crossdressing for fear of offending them, for example. (Though they still failed in their attempt to get Naoto in Persona 4 Golden rewritten into a trans man.)

I noticed HBO MAX is airing a TV series based on Rowling's detective novels, but I don't even think they've even noticed that. They probably wouldn't care anyway, since I don't think they care about the audience that watches detective shows even though the same "it's funding evil transphobe J. K. Rowling" applies just as much there.

No, this is spot on: economic issues (the ability to pay bills) trumps social issues (troons, migrants, feminism) 100 out of hundred times. IIRC Lesbianism technically wasn’t illegal in Victorian times. A mind virus is a good way of looking at the thing as a whole in all honestly. It honestly spreads like one too. It even has symptoms. Fixing it however? I don't think that's something that can really happen it'll just have to work it's way through society like the common cold. I think this whole Hogwarts's Legacy thing is something akin to a immune system response. If my hypothesis holds any water we're gonna see a lot more of these kinds of reactions from the troons in the coming future.
