EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (AP) — The head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency got a first-hand look Thursday at the toll left by a freight train derailment in Ohio, where toxic chemicals spilled or were burned off, leaving the stench of fresh paint nearly two weeks later.

EPA Administrator Michael Regan, who walked along a creek that still reeks of chemicals, sought to reassure skeptical residents that say the water is fit for drinking and the air safe to breathe around East Palestine, where just under 5,000 people live near the Pennsylvania state line.

“I’m asking they trust the government. I know that’s hard. We know there’s a lack of trust,” Regan said. “We’re testing for everything that was on that train.”

“I have three grandbabies,” said Kathy Dyke, who came with hundreds of her neighbors to a public meeting Wednesday where representatives of railroad operator Norfolk Southern were conspicuously absent. “Are they going to grow up here in five years and have cancer?”

Since the derailment, residents have complained about headaches and irritated eyes and finding their cars and lawns covered in soot. The hazardous chemicals that spilled from the train killed thousands of fish, and residents have talked about finding dying or sick pets and wildlife.

Residents are frustrated by what they say is incomplete and vague information about the lasting effects from the disaster, which prompted evacuations.

“I have three grandbabies,” said Kathy Dyke, who came with hundreds of her neighbors to a public meeting Wednesday where representatives of railroad operator Norfolk Southern were conspicuously absent. “Are they going to grow up here in five years and have cancer?”

Regan said Thursday that anyone who is fearful of being in their home should seek testing from the government.

“People have been unnerved. They’ve been asked to leave their homes,” he said, adding that if he lived there, he would be willing to move his family back into the area as long as the testing shows it’s safe.

Those attending the previous night’s informational session had questions over health hazards and demanded more transparency from Norfolk Southern, which did not attend, citing concerns about its staff safety. Many who had waited in a long line snaking outside the high school gymnasium came away upset that they didn’t hear anything new. Some booed or laughed each time they heard the village mayor or state health director assure them that lingering odors aren’t dangerous.

“They just danced around the questions a lot,” said Danielle Deal, who lives a few miles from the derailment site. “Norfolk needed to be here.”

At least five lawsuits have been filed against the railroad, which announced this week that it is creating a $1 million fund to help the community while continuing to remove spilled contaminants from the ground and streams and monitoring air quality.

“We are here and will stay here for as long as it takes to ensure your safety and to help East Palestine recover and thrive,” Norfolk Southern President and CEO Alan Shaw said in a letter to the community.

Families who evacuated said they want assistance figuring out how to get the promised financial help. Beyond that, they want to know whether the railroad will be held responsible.

State and federal officials have promised to make sure Norfolk Southern not only pays for the cleanup but also reimburses residents.

The White House said teams from the federal health and emergency response and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will go to East Palestine.

“We understand the residents are concerned — as they should be —- and they have questions. That’s all understandable,” said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. “And we’re going to get to the bottom of this.”

No one was injured when about 50 cars derailed in a fiery, mangled mess on the outskirts of East Palestine on Feb. 3. Officials seeking to avoid an uncontrolled blast evacuated the area and opted to release and burn toxic vinyl chloride from five rail cars, sending flames and black smoke billowing into the sky again.

The Ohio EPA said the latest tests show five wells supplying the village’s drinking water are free from contaminants.

At least, 3,500 fish, mostly small ones such as minnows and darters, have been found dead along more than 7 miles (11.2 kilometers) of streams, according to the estimates from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Precautions are being taken to ensure contaminants that reached the Ohio River don’t make it into drinking water, officials said.

There have been anecdotal reports that pets or livestock have been sickened. No related animal deaths have been confirmed and the risk to livestock is low, Ohio officials said, but the state Agriculture Department is testing samples from a beef calf that died a week after the derailment.

The suspected cause of the derailment is a mechanical issue with a rail car axle. The National Transportation Safety Board said it has video appearing to show a wheel bearing overheating just beforehand. The NTSB expects to issue its preliminary report in about two weeks.

They want everyone there dead so there's no survivors to challenge the narrative they push to cover up what happened and who's responsible.

To the people who don't know what happened, read the happenings thread. It's pretty clear it's not sabotage, it's oversight caused by retardation on behalf of the Biden Admin and Norfolk Southern aka Blackrock.

Have none of these people ever seen a Chinese liveleak video? Are those disasters all planned too?

That information is interesting though. I didn't know vinyl chloride was like that.
I ve posted this video around he forums

TLDW: a chemical plant thta processed vinyl chloride blew up. This of course resulted in all the land being posined for ever.

The only reason I don't think "the gubermint did it" is because it doesn't really make sense. Ohio is a battleground state, and while this did happen in an area that voted for Trump this will affect far beyond that area, and if that one NOAA picture is true then it affects neighboring blue states and even fucking Canada itself. Gassing your own voters, and potentially swinging an important state away from you doesn't seem like smart government policy. Now it would make better sense if they did it, and then swooped in to look like saviors but that doesn't seem to be happening.

What IS strange is how the white house is acting about it. You would think with election being next year the Biden admin would be jumping quickly to seem like a competent and benevolent administration. Even if what they say is true and that there is no risk to public health (LOL yeah right) it would look far better if they declared a emergency, and then found out even if its "wasted" money. Because if the inverse is true and this is truly an emergency while they keep dragging their feet.....well people aren't going to like that to say the least.

Whats damning to Biden now is that train derailments are now getting focused on, and I keep seeing stories of train derailments coming from the media. Apparently one happened in Houston just a few days ago. This with Biden telling rail workers "get back in the cagie wagie" isn't a good look for him.

Ah who am I kidding. The average "vote blue no matter who" tard would still vote for Biden even if he came out tomorrow and said "I think Niggers are subhumans that should leave America!". They would just make excuses.
It’s less that the government did it and more the government taking inaction because this happened at a place that voted wrong in the last couple of elections as well as it being populated by about 98% of the wrong people who deserve everything coming to them. It’s antiwhiteness in full display here. The false flag narrative is a deliberate distraction from the seething hatred the government has for white people. However, the Biden administration is so incompetent that they didn’t do a good job of hiding that fact. Republicans are as useless as always which shows solutions don’t lie with them either.

This derailment and subsequent handling is a perfect encapsulation of Weimerica in 2023.

Blame the rail company then
The rail company is to blame, but they're actually paying for the clean up costs.
The problem is that the federal government is staying as quiet as they can because they know they fucked up by ordering it all burned before they evacuated a large enough area. And they refuse to admit that they poisoned half of Ohio.

"I'm from the government, I'm not here to help."

So, both Texas and Ohio now have been refused Federal Aid. How nice of them.

I want to see all of these people claiming the water is safe to drink, reach down with a cup and scoop out some water from a puddle and drink it.

First rule of survival in a catastrophic situation: Never drink from a puddle or body of water with no algae, insects, or other life. Whatever kills it will kill you.

It's Clown World.

Clown World all the way down.
Maybe I'll check out the State Line pond on my way through, today. (If I can get that far up Taggart.) There's always a nice bloom, although not so much in the dead of Winter.

I have been posting here for years. I know how they think.

I still find it odd all the blame is toward the Biden administration and not the rail company. They are the main ones responsible considering they *own those trains* and ignored safety concerns. Yet I see conspiracy theories about how the government deliberately did this to punish a Trump voting town in the middle of nowhere.

Also all the concern for poisoned water evaporated when I brought up fracking. Probably because it benefits big corporations. If people are going to be inconsistent like that and just parrot the shit I'm already seeing from all the conservative influencers, then yes, I would say thats partisan shilling

I've been complaining about politispergs for awhile now. I must be making some people very upset their hugbox is being violated if I'm getting multiple people ragepost on my profile.
People are blaming Biden and the rail company. Biden broke the rail workers strike which had safety as a major concern and so the rail company was not forced to implement the safety improvements they refused to implement on their own.

Idk about fracking but as I understand it the poisoned water from fracking isn't as widespread as this current situation.

Vinyl chloride when combined with water vapor creates hydrochloric acid, which results in acid rain. Increased acidity kills off wildlife. Basically to downplay this event is to negate the last 60-70 years of environmentalism. Fracked water that occasionally has trace amounts of natural gas that ends up in tap water. It’s not good but the two aren’t even remotely comparable. Fracked water at this point has chemicals filtered out as well with the water recycled (piping in water ain’t cheap) so it’s not even relevant at this point.

I know Freya was just trolling but I find it hilarious that he/she/it picked this profoundly stupid position and keeps doubling down on it. I guess she’ll run any cry about those mean doody heads at A&H but the irony here is a source of nonstop amusement. I hope xyr keeps doubling down in the future.

I thought pollution wasn't real and was just a communist conspiracy. Why are all the righttards suddenly caring about this? I don't get the angle honestly. Is it just because it's supposed to make joe biden look bad?
People that treat all CO2 as a sign that we're in the end of days are insane and is the sort of thing right wingers mock.

This incident involves a railway accident that government officials may or may not have handled as they were supposed to. Every railcar should have some sort of document associated with it that says exactly how it's meant to be handled as that's part of a federal law, so if that wasn't done then it would suggest something was done wrong on either the railway's part or with the federal system which Biden's administration could have some control over.

One of the problems with Biden's response has been that he has his people wanting to "hold the company accountable", when people would rather hear what he is going to do to help repair things. Then you have Buttigieg trying to smooth things over by pointing out that they're wanting to fund infrastructure for railways and federal agencies, which again doesn't actually help the current situation.

When there's a hurricane and it destroys a bunch of people's homes, people don't want to hear the government will spend more on levees, they want to hear how the government will help those whose homes were destroyed.

Biden's response has been incredibly tone deaf and he's trying desperately to avoid any association with it. People notice.

If the gov't wanted people to trust the results, they could just fund some european company to come in and give some huge assessment of the risks, etc.

But they know that it would say things like "it's probably gonna be ok but you could be fucked" and they don't want to admit that.

These "save levels" are always for momentary exposure, not for "exposure over insanely long periods of time".

I don't think the disaster was deliberate. At least, if it was, it's some, much vaster conspiracy than just wanting to punish some little podunk town nobody had heard of last month, but that's a little far into conspiracy theory land for me right now.

On the other hand, are you honestly telling me the response to this would have been the same had this happened in, lets say, Cali-we-can't-go-a-fucking-year-without-crying-we-need-help-for-a-disaster-of-our-own-making-fornia? Would they be going on TV to tell a bunch of Friscofucks that the sicknesses and dead pets were all in their minds and not really a problem? Be real. The heads of the company involved would all but literally be on stakes outside the Whitehouse by now, and Washington would be writing checks with other people's money to ship in tanker trucks of water from the Great Lakes, or some shit.

"Why aren't people engaging with my attempts to derail the thread by bringing up different situations?"

I've been complaining about politispergs for awhile now. I must be making some people very upset their hugbox is being violated if I'm getting multiple people ragepost on my profile.

Ah yes. Tim Tool logic. "If I'm pissing everyone off, I must be on to something!"
