Ralph is in many ways a shut in. He goes to the bar, sure, but he doesn't have IRL friends - this was much the same in Richmond. Its not like he has moved to the country and integrated with the local population, it's more akin to living in an expat community where you don't need to learn the local language. Plus, most Mexicans in these areas probably know enough English to interact with tourists so getting a beer or eating out won't require Spanish.Itâs amazing that Ralph has been in Mexico for over seven months and doesnât even know the most basic of Spanish. His attempt at even basic words is laughably bad. Spanish is one of the easiest to learn for an English speaker, far easier than French or German imo.
Most ppl are conversational within 90 days of full immersion, and basic study, in a non-English speaking country. I think this is true of most non-retards. I was having dreams in the other language by 90 days. Ralph canât even communicate in single words. I was waiting for him to try out âno problemoâ
He would need to go out of his way to learn Spanish, and this is a man who earns $600 while getting out of his mind on drink and drugs, yet won't buy a car seat for his daughter.
