Editing so I don't become a double post fag but aren't there the true crazies who try to birth at Disney parks so they can get a lifetime pass? Happened only ever once but people are trying.

I hope Jaekwan has a nice birthday though. Can't imagine the financial strain for a lot of families to drag a dozen people to a Disney park.

A good portion of them view it as their great cultural conquest. Them going is their victory lap. Especially the gay men who hang out at Disney.

There are strains. Many are like you mention. Many are not alone and not childless however.

The retiree strain for example will have children and go on about how their Disney Vacation Club timeshare contracts are totally great assets to give to their children when they die.

You have the middle aged married gay men who are now too unattractive and fat to go to fuck fests who like to make sure everyone can see that they are gay and proud and make sure to kiss in front of children. They are basically there to take cultural victory laps.

You have the young female insta girls who have young male orbiters who fake it until they make it to actual disney adults.

You have the wine aunt / wine mom crowd who proudly brag about how fucked up they get from "drinking around the world" at epcot while wearing "drinkerbelle" shirts.

You have the visibly stressed beaten down disney dads trying to buy their families love by overpaying for a vacation every year. You can identify them in the wild with the wdw bumper stickers.

• Give your uploaded videos brief titles and/or descriptions on what they're about for the people who don't want to spend 15-20 min watching them.

I originally did embed some videos, but got feedback they had to be archival versions and most of those channels have videos that are so long they kept crashing when I tried to upload. (I totally understand why Null wants wiki-functionality in the OPs, because I could have asked someone else to try.)
Based on your feedback, though, I did realize I could just upload a couple youtube "shorts" from the people that had them, so hopefully it looks ok now.

Also, since I don't actually know much about these channels (most were suggestions) I changed the section title to "YouTube Channels to Check for Content".

I confess in the early 2010s I used to be obsessed with the Disney parks, I read tons of blogs online, even a book about them.

Blogs like Parkeology, Mesa Verde Times, Passports to Dreams Old And New, Long Forgotten (about the Haunted Mansion), even a blog devoted to Tower of Terror (which is no longer even online), Disney & More and Leonard Kinsey's The Dark Side of Disney book.

All that stuff has basically petered out, all these blogs have gone quiet (or very, very rarely update), all the cool stuff in the fandom has been replaced with the new generation of these Soyed out "Disney Adults" losers, it's really sad to see.

I have fond memories of going to the parks as a kid, but the whole thing's become so overexposed, overpriced and overcrowded now.

The history of it is interesting and cool, but it's been replaced from a company that did want to give people amazing experiences to predatory consooooooooomer bullshit.

This is the state of the whole internet. The whole ecosystem of productive people (with real jobs) who posted something worthwhile every week or month has been replaced with "big name fan" bullshit. The consoomers get the most visibility, since they have a nonstop stream of low quality output, and older non photogenic people know they're cut out of online interactions altogether now. It's pathetic.

fyi the theme parks were always designed with everyone in mind, not just kids and not just families either, in photos from the 50s you can see adults without kids.

When asked in an interview one of the original imagineers said "we'd like to give the experiences you always wanted to do like drive a race car" ie interesting experiences for everyone, kids and adults.

There's fancy restaurants at some of the hotels which are also fancy.

Animal Kingdom offers you the experience to feel like you're really visiting real world Asia and Africa.

There's nothing wrong with an adult going to one of the Disney parks without a kid along, it's just being ruined by people doing it for social media clout or buying unreasonable amounts of merchandise or swallowing Woke garbage or paying unreasonable prices.

Obviously the ideal time is to go when you're a kid and one of the biggest reasons to go back is nostalgia, but there's still things that should at least in theory be interesting to an adult.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here, Disney has done some impressive things in it's history, which makes it all the more sadder to see it being ruined by dipshits.

Haunted Mansion is one of the coolest things ever, I will always be an unashamed Haunted Mansion fan.

That was truly a transcendent experience at 7, to go from hot Florida humidity to the icy cold of the hallway, it was insane.

Also a valuable lesson for kids there about facing your fears.

In 2020 Chris/Foxx Nolte published a book that was a deep dive into it that I read and it was good (you have to be a really big fan though), that seems to be the last gasp of anything interesting from the Disney fandom.

I know this Nolte person is kind of embarrassing but credit where credit is due.

One of the more disturbing aspects to me about Disney devotees is the Disney College Program. I had heard about it growing and saw ads for it around Uni and assumed it was a proper internship: maybe you'd get to shadow imaginers, or learn ride design, theme park management, business, finance, accounting, the art side of it, or acting in the shows you know stuff that's vaguely connected to a career someone might be pursuing in college, but no its being a glorified wagie in a ye olde company town.

Not only are you applying just to do normal theme park wagie stuff, but you are paid less then the full staffers. On top of that you are forced to stay at Disney's own special apartments for college workers that you need to pay for out of your wages, which are also somehow more expensive then other near by apartments. Its also far aware from normal stores, its hard to get parking, and busses are a hassle so there is a good chance you'll have to buy overpriced shit from the parks. The only benefit is getting access to a few special behind the scenes tours or a few mixers with refreshments, which can be scheduled during your shift. Yet when you look at any video talking about the exact things I am mentioning the person will just be like "yeah it was ass and I made little to no money (many of them end up spending more money then they earn there) but the disney MAGIC made the experience." At that point just get a summer job working at a resort town or with the parks service. You will probably make more and get to do actually cool stuff like hiking, climbing, or tours of cool shit.

There are Professional Internships [current front page archive] that are in fields of study like business, film/tv production, and animal care. They're still paid for shit, but since many other internships are unpaid, that's less egregious. And those kids do get both experience and networking, so it's not a completely raw deal. College program just getting people to work as janitors, line cooks, and ride attendants under even worse conditions than regular employees for the sake of DiSnEy MaGiC is crazy, and yet they have no trouble filling it every year.

There's an International Program also that brings people from other countries over, mostly to work at Epcot pavilions or the themed hotels. Claiming "develop leadership skills" to work in restaurants and gift shops while wearing stereotype uniforms.

Former Wagie at Six Flags. Confirm they do this. Thy usually bring in Asians or Mexicans but by the end they had Africans and Indians too.
