That is either a really bizarre lie, or he does not understand his medical condition.

In between "beats," the heart is refilling with the blood that will be pushed out on the next beat. The trouble with (for instance) atrial fibrillation and why it causes strokes is that a rapid and disorganized beat leads to incomplete filling and emptying, and the pooling from blood that isn't ejected can lead to clotting. "Rate control" means slowing the heart so it has time to refill fully, so each squeeze of the pump is ejecting more blood.

On the other hand, Dave thinks his heart needs to be pumping faster, so it can have an even worse diastolic fill between squeezes, and this will reduce the risk of a clot. Which is... OK, no, I figured it out.

Can anyone like @Aunt Carol or @Manul Otocolobus comment on this vitals as a whole? I don't normally think about KF much when I'm not actually on the site, but Dave's readings perplexed me and my medical training pretty much starts and ends with keeping a body breathing and plugging leaks until someone with real book learnin' shows up. The numbers he's so proud of still look worrying to me.

I know BP and pulse don't scale linearly, but wouldn't you expect to see higher readings at 120+bpm? Dave is on the low end of normal as I understand it at 105/65. Wouldn't a normal resting heartrate drop that into low BP territory? I'm just thinking of basic fluid dynamics. Does his heart work so poorly that the pump needs to spin nearly twice as fast as it were? I guess with someone as fat and sedentary as Dave that it'd be more like a +30-40% increase. Lose some weight fatty. Give your heart, back, and joints a break.

I also love we have no proof of the sky high blood pressure his father caused, but we do have proof of some kind of heart condition that he refuses to try to alleviate by changing his slovenly lifestyle. Wait, I forgot he needed to get 300% of his daily sodium and 200% of his daily fat from microwave meals because he didn't have the spices to put on an apple.

I don't know that specific monitor, but I'd be skeptical of that heart rate, because the oxygen reading is lit up too. This means that very likely the heart rate is coming from the fingertip pleth, same as the oxygen saturation.

With a self-reported irregular heartbeat, I wouldn't immediately trust the machine;. It's counting a few seconds of fingertip readings and then just multiplying. If someone has atrial fibrillation, the values can fluctuate wildly and seem scary, but it's just because the machine went from multiplying beats 1 2 3 to multiplying beats 3 4 5. This can get really weird-looking if someone's simultaneously on two different monitors and they calculate differently

Dave is on a handful of meds, but I forgot if he truly has AFib or it just makes the most sense for the things he takes and the things he claims. (I remember he was pity-farming about "heart surgery" and it turned out to be that he's putting off a catheter ablation.)

Anyway, my Tier 2 tech support answer is to confirm your theory. Dave isn't a trauma victim (shh) but has a dysfunctional heart and/or terrible physical fitness so his heart is working harder in order to maintain a normotensive BP, and he might have just engaged in rigorous activity such as walking from the waiting room to the exam room. We should still check an apical pulse to confirm this isn't mechanical error, so please do the needful.

• Has good reason to believe she or he is a victim of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, or other crime who fears future harm, or she or he resides with a victim;
• Has a valid Missouri address where she or he can immediately begin receiving mail;
• Is an adult person or a parent or guardian acting on behalf of a minor or incapacitated person;
• Is willing to designate the secretary of state as her or his legal agent to receive legal documents, service of process and first-class and certified mail;
• Understands the best use of the program is for those who have relocated or are about to relocate to an address unknown to the assailant and that is not already part of any public record; and
• Understands there will be a 5 -to 7-day mail delay as mail first comes to Safe at Home and is then forwarded to her or his confidential mailing address.

They must work with an Application Assistant and the application must include "(c) A statement that the applicant has good reason to believe that he or she: a. Is a victim or resides in the same household as a victim; and b. Fears future harm;" according to Missouri Revised Statutes 589.663. So while their is an application process with oversight, it seems like the barrier to entry is rather low. This is useful for abuse victims trying to escape their abuser who haven't started any kind of paperwork trail which is common. It is also very useful to grifting lowlifes like Dave.
