DeSantis has the same stance on the vaccines as Trump - no mandates, but 'take the vaccine out of your own free will.' Like every other governor, he heavily promoted getting vaccinated, setting up multiple sites, that kind of thing. I'm pretty sure he also took it.

There is no contender for the 2024 Republican nomination who can outflank Trump based on the vaccine. You're not going to prevent Trump from winning the nomination based on the covid vaccines given that it's highly mainstream among Republican politicians. DeSantis and Trump aren't as cucked as Chris Sununu of New Hampshire, who said that "governments shouldn't step in to prevent companies from imposing vaccine mandates because companies have the right to do that." They aren't as bad as Democrat governors. But they're not particularly better than each other on the issue.

Thing with DeSantis is that he was a pretty generic Republican congressman who went along with the generic Republican consensus pre-Trump, and reoriented himself after 2016 when the winds were clearly blowing in the MAGA direction for the GOP. Now the anti-MAGA donor class seek to use him to go back to business as usual, which is why their paid shills (many of whom took the vax themselves) claim that DeSantis makes Trump look like Kathy Hochul on the vax when DeSantis=Trump on the issue. DeSantis wasn't anti-MAGA in 2016 like Romney, but he's also someone who can go establishment-pretending-to-be-MAGA in 2024 if the donors push him that way,

edit: anyway DeSantis vs Trump 2024 is a Red Herring. Neither are winning in the general election unless they commit enough counter-fraud to overcome the fortification in enough of the following states: Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada (unless Joe Lombardo manages to remove fortification), and maybe Georgia (trending Democrat but if you manage to commit enough counter-fraud it won't matter). Hell they should counter-fraud in Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Maine at Large while they're at it.

I suspect 2024 will be Trump vs a Democrat; DeSantis will turn out to be like Kamala Harris, Andrew Yang and Michael Bloomberg were in 2020 - a lot of noise about them early in the cycle, a lot of shills for them online, but then flames out after early primary states. Might not even make it to Iowa. If DeSantis makes it to Iowa, I doubt he manages to win the caucus. Next up is New Hampshire, which I don't think is as MAGA friendly as Ohio but also isn't as establishment friendly as Utah. Nevada and South Carolina will have similar issues for DeSantis. Only way I see DeSantis being the nominee is if Trump dies beforehand or the GOP commits suicide by blatantly rigging it.

You only have to look at the actions of the people and institutions around them. We see DeSantis starting to get some support from the establishment swamp, Soros, others, Anti-DeSantis rhetoric among the media has been, compared to Trump, virtually nothing. Trump is still largely politically isolated, except from the few people supporting him, that themselves are also largely politically isolated due to their similar views.

Having GOP ballot harvesters get beaten up is a small price to pay to try and actually stop the election fraud. Democrats overperform polling when they utilize election fortification, polls were still mostly off in 2020 (R's generally overperforming because of the above factor) but in 2022 the low propensity working class voters didn't show up and in states where I suspect they may have showed up like Arizona, election fortification made D's overperform polling in an unprecedented manner.

In 2024, it's very likely that low propensity working class voters show up again because it'll be a Presidential year with Trump as the likely R nominee. And if the R's manage to use election fortification in their favor, it could cause an even bigger overperformance compared to polling than 2016 and 2020.

caveats: R's don't apply election fortification as effectively or D's manage to impede the counter-fortification efforts in some fashion, the D's are somehow more popular in 2024 than they are now (I have noticed that they are trying to make Chomo Joe more appealing to working class whites via ripping off parts of the MAGA platform as shown in the State of the Union speech, but I'm unsure if that will actually work out), the country breaks apart and a Presidential election is an afterthought

Using the Dem's games against them better be the plan.
