Person of Ontario here. I can say that if he's "going into detox" it's almost certainly BS unless it's for severe crisis-level benzo addiction or he's paying out of pocket. If he showed up at an ER in opioid withdrawals they might give him a dose of methadone or suboxone on the spot to alleviate them, but clinic space at OATC is nonexistent and waitlisted right now, he wouldn't even be admitted to a room. Coke and meth addiction don't warrant detox, you just wait it out because it only lasts a day or two and the physical symptoms aren't serious enough to put you in danger. Only severe alcohol and benzo addiction are enough to require managed detox, and there is zero space anywhere in the public system for him to enter without being waitlisted for weeks if not months.
For opioid withdrawals they put you on methadone and require you to show up at the OATC clinic to drink it in front of someone, generally. Benzo addiction is comparatively rare and most of the treatment facilities don't have clinical staff to address it.
IF he's telling the truth, he'd have to be in such a severe state of benzo addiction that the docs decided he'd die without a month long managed detox, and they'd ship him to CAMH in Toronto for it. Prescription benzos for anxiety are usually only given out for 4-6 weeks at max because of their withdrawal potential, so if he is addicted to benzos, he's probably been buying research chemical benzos from a clearnet company, of which there's a number in Canada that just mail them to you. They also have opioid analogs like brorphine. These aren't cheap, they run $200 or so per gram or more.
From what I've seen of him on stream, he's 100% a bar tard. He probably got a script for Xanax or another similar benzo after the swatting, citing anxiety, or was popping pills in Ireland and got hooked there, then started buying RCs when he returned to Canada.
