Eh, I listen to a lot of doom metal, like Electric Wizard and Bongripper, and a lot of that music is simplistic and heavy as shit. So I'd figure him just practicing basics could potentially have him produce some heavy doom. As he says though, he is autistic, leave him alone.
Nope, doesnt work that way. Michael Angelo Batio is am immensely skilled guitarists, one of the best in the world. No one listens to his shit, because its boring and gay. Tom Delonge from Blink 182 is a bang average guitarist is who quite sloppy live, and he has plat albums, millionaire, and a place in the culture from when they were one of the biggest bands in the world for a period of time.
Guitar skill is not the same as song writing skills. Plus have you seen cobes try to play a song? he fucks up all the time. He struggles to with guitar song playing, because mostly what he does is pretend to shred with slides, then does the most basic bitch taps you have ever seen, sliding into some chord work (mostly 5ths, because of-fucking-course he is a powerchord lord, those types ALWAYS are).
Not to mention, doom is harder than you think. Just because it has less notes and a slower tempo than some Sleep Terror, it has major hurdles to overcome. Simple also means its easy for the listener to hear every note you pick, so you better pick well. When you have less to work with in terms of musical notes or beats, you have to be more selective in your choices.
Cobes can not handle any of that, because he is a drunk boglim. I am shocked he is at least mostly in tune when he plays.
