Every so often, someone who is paralyzed or otherwise mobility/sensory-impaired gets their fingers or toes chewed off by a puppy. Puppies, you know, chew things. They learn pretty quickly what things not to chew by being corrected. Luna cannot correct a dog. Luna, whose parents are notably bad at providing consistent, high-quality supervision. Luna, who gets tube fed and probably smells very interesting…

It's miserable but Atlas never has a sparkle in his eye. The older he gets the more drained he looks (and I'm not implying there is something intellectually wrong with him). It's sad. Having a lively dog would probably make him happy but that doesn't make it any less of an awful idea.

To be fair, shelters are full pit-bulls, and pit mixed breeds described as "Labradors" or whatever. It's not politically correct to say it but a lot of pit bulls are just not suitable for living with children.

PL but during the begining of the pando my brother sesrched for a shelter dog and EVERY shelter he visited was exactly this. Extremely obvious pitts and pitt mixes labled as labs. It was extremely dishonest and dangerous to be doing so.

Now it IS possible to find other mixes but you have to be very fast to pick them up, let the shelters know ahead of time what you are looking for, have plenty of patience, and be willing to travel. He eventually found a non-pitt.

Edit: I love the lunacy post of Robyn saying how "as soon as she found out she was pregnant with x, she did all she could tobprepare her body--sans workout". If shes such an empowering epic birthing goddess, why not? It is encouraged by all obgyns, greatly increases the odds of a successful labor and delivery, and increases the body's ability to recover after childbirth.

Come to think of it... has she really only been pregnant three times in all of her lifetime? Shes been with Glen forever and they are mid 30s by now, no? One spud, one miscarriage, and one delayed speach 2 year old is not a good look for someone who fancies herself a birthing Goddess super mama. Does she have fertility issues I wonder? Shes been with Glen for at least over 10 years and three pregnancies in that time just seems insanely low for a naturalistic mama that probably doesnt use birth control and is married to a thirsty Mexican.

There are rescue shelters too. You may not get a puppy, but you can get a young dog. I get greyhounds off the track-they are usually 3-5 years old and very well behaved. Perfect calm dogs for a family and despite the reputation, they don’t need long walks or training and like nothing better than to sleep. You do have to be careful as many will chase cats and small dogs (that’s how they are taught to race-with a fake rabbit), but rescue places usually test to see if they are cat safe or not. If you want an inappropriate dog for a family, I’m sure there are shepherd rescues.

You can save a dog without having to go to a city shelter and it is not necessary to go to a breeder.

I know they had a shepherd before but they had a different life then. That would be a terrible choice now.
