I told my mother about it while the site was being attacked because she's interested in issues like censorship. She said she looked up the Farms and said it was out of character for me to be involved with a website that drives people to suicide, and how would I feel if I was on the other end of that? I defended the site but she told me I had an unhealthy obsession with weirdos on the internet and that I needed a new hobby. Totes felt bad but I still post. Parents just don't understand.

I actually have a few times, but mainly as a way of providing context to explain the entire online lolcow subculture relating to dudes like CWC, and sometimes also as a way of explaining the concept of doxing.

There are also a couple times I've shared the website's history of attempted cancellations as a way of illustrating how a totally legal, privately funded site can have to fight tooth and nail to stay online, because to a lot of people that's not even a concept that makes sense.

I've got a friend who likes the MatI streams focused on individuals (fedsmoker, mobility mary, etc) and I've tried to explain to him what kiwifarms is a couple of times. I haven't been a poster for too long though and I think we've only hung out once since I've registered so I haven't really had a chance/reason to mention it. There's been a handful of threads I've followed since 2018 or 19 maybe but all the drama over the last year pushed me to finally make an account

I also have a memory of telling my cousin not to say where a particular piece of information that I gave him came from (he was in college with a bunch of friends working on various tech degrees who'd always wear pro-trans pins when we went out so I assumed there was a non-zero chance of them knowing what the site was) but that would have been way before I registered. I have no idea what that piece of info was at this point
