Can I point out that wanting to have casual sex doesn't require you to not be selective? Not even highly selective, something Aella presumably could be and still have many partners due to a number of things. She's being very irrational in her thinking when "casual sex" is simply an acknowledgement that you don't need a relationship to be having sex. Plenty of people do this from time to time without be willing to fuck anything that asks. Why do these "rationalists" all talk the same? They all take 20 minutes to say something that would take a normal person 1 minute to say.

I know the easy/default answer is "They're just trying to sound smart!" but there has to be a more in depth explanation.

I had an acquaintance who got sucked into this community. Instead of dealing with the many problems in his life, he would spend an absurd amount of time making abstract arguments about why it would actually be smarter and morally better for him not to deal with it, actually. It got way worse after he got involved with the rats. He started calling it "decoupling" and thought it was an indication that he was smarter than everyone else.

For people like Aella, it seems that this type of cope has become their whole personality.
