I think it's fair to say James just stopped trying.

The same way modern day episodes of Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama and American Dad suffer from lazy animation in the newer episodes (though this might sound unfair to American Dad, because at least the writing still manages to be quality after all these years, but I'm more talking about the visual aspects, so please take my word),

I like James but I really do think it's time to retire and live out a happy life with his kids. It's so obvious he's phoning it in.
This is his retirement.

This is his fucking pension. Getting on camera in his garage and banging out a shitty video every month for some cash. Then spending the rest of the time between his family, his boomer band and his horror films.

Sounds like a pretty awesome life to me.
I agree.

Is it lazy? Sure. But why get upset about it? He's been about as transparent as one can be without full on going "I'm half assing it for the check, suckers!"

The dude flat out refuses to make a patreon last I heard, even though people say it'd make a lot of money. The fact he refuses should really say a lot about his state of mind. He either cares so little that he doesn't bother, or he realizes it'd be scummy to accept money for the bare minimum work he puts in to get advertiser money.

Does screenwave handle a lot more than AVGN? Im assuming James is their marquee product but hes a declining product;
They handle more than AVGN. I randomly found a video from some guy that talks about medical stories that featured Justin Silverman in dramatization footage so I assume that's one of them.

There isn't a public list as far as I know, but I've heard people say that anyone whos merch is sold on retroware is handled by them. I've also heard Did You Know Gaming? is handled by them as well.

I'm gonna be controversial and say that this episode wasn't bad. It certainly wasn't good, but it had two really good jokes (the original motherfucker, his monologue about what they did before Nintendo Power and the internet) but was massively let down by that godawful farm skit. But I at least laughed a few times, so for a modern AVGN episode, it wasn't terrible.

Literally cut in half in just 8 months. That's just....wow. They do have more videos than AVGN but nobody really gives a shit about them unless it's AVGN, but even with the boring episodes being put out, AVGN videos still get a lot of views. As of this post, the latest one is at 788K views. Compare that to someone like the Nostalgia Critic where Doug is lucky to even get close to 200K views

I honestly don’t believe that James is vindictive and evil like most of the troglodytes on Reddit do. I don’t think he thinks he puts in minimal effort, I think it’s quite the opposite. As for Patreon, I would think he doesn’t do it because he’d think he had to make Patreon specific content, and he doesn’t have time (yes, I said that ironically and on purpose) to make the content. And because of that, I think he feels similarly to your last statement. He probably thinks it wouldn’t be fair for people to give him money on Patreon without doing something special for them on there.

Despite popular Reddit belief, I really do believe that James has a good heart and is trying to do the right thing.
Lbut was massively let down by that godawful farm skit
I thought that part was funny tbh.

It’s not controversial to have that opinion. A lot of the post Episode 200 episodes aren’t bad. Some of them are pretty damn funny in fact. Just because Reddit NPC’s like to drone on about “Nerd Man Bad”, doesn’t mean that the stuff is bad.

You're talking about ChubbyEmu, he's a doctor who just makes dramatized medical videos as a sidegig. I doubt he actually uses Screenwave (I mean it's possible he most likely has an editor like most big name Youtubers).

He gets other Youtubers to play the fictional victim to get more exposure and because it's just funny to see them appear in cameos. Justin Whang played an alcoholic in one of them.

Really weird to get Justin Silverman of all people to play someone. I wouldn't exactly call him a "Youtuber", let alone someone of note on the level of Whang

My brother, have you seen the videos he has been making (and I use that term loosely, as Screenwave writes and edits them) for almost a decade now?

Did we not just have a huge controversy a year and a half ago because it came to light that he had ghostwriters write his Monster Madness vids, and one of them plagiarized?

He very obviously isn't putting his maximum effort into AVGN.

But yeah, he isn't evil or vindictive. He's just a dude making an easy living at this point. James is fun to laugh at in his twilight years, but people that seethe and get upset that he somehow didn't (and absolutely couldn't) keep doing what he was doing in perpetuity are absolute mongs.

To be fair to James his current "studio" rn is significantly smaller than the previous one. Plus I wouldn't bitch some much about camera works since he can produce some banger like Contra or the Last Ninja w/o insane camera works.
The Nerd Room in his second apartment was also ridiculously small and had his editing computer (which he had to avoid showing). He still made it work though.
